    I haven't posted in this section for awhile so I thought I'd start a thread for everyone to share their signature licks or licks associated with their playing. This way we can all get an idea of others playing styles and licks since the majority of us can't really put 100% of our playing style into recordings.

    Here's an example from my shred oriented playing. I tend to extend arpeggios with 4 note per string patterns and multi finger tapping to try to sound unique.

    E||-------------------------------------------
    B||-------------------------------------------
    G||-------------------------------------------
    D||-------------------------------------------
    A||------------------------------------------8
    E||--5-7-8-10-12-14-12-10-8-7-5-7-8-10-12--
    B||-------------------------------------------

    -------------8-10-12-13-15-17-15-13-12-10-8--------------------
    ----------10-----------------------------------10-----------------
    --------9-----------------------------------------9---------------
    -----10--------------------------------------------10------------
    --12--------------------------------------------------12-8-------
    -----------------------------------------------------------12----
    --------------------------------------------------------------13-

    I apply sweeping and economy picking for pentatonic runs:

    E||-----------10-12-14-17-14-12-10------------------
    B||--------12---------------------- 12---------------
    G||-----14----------------------------14-------------
    D||--16----------------------------------16-14-12-9-
    A||-------------------------------------------------
    E||-------------------------------------------------
    B||-------------------------------------------------

    ----------------------------
    ----------------------------
    ----------------------------
    ----------------------------
    --12------------------------
    -----14-10-12-7-------------
    ---------------- 10-7-5-3-0--

    And I try to sound like Holdsworth:

    E||-----12-14-16-13------------------------------------------
    B||--12-------------14-------------12-13---------------------
    G||--------------------13-------12-------15------------------
    D||-----------------------15-14-------------16-------14-12--
    A||--------------------------------------------12-11---------
    E||-----------------------------------------------------------

    Share your licks guys!

    Edit: The tap markings won't stay in place so I figured you guys can figure out where to tap.

    I use this one all the time:

    Code:
    ----------------12-10-8--------------------------
    -------------10---------12-10-9-----------------
    -----------9---------------------10-9------------
    --------10---------------------------------------
    --7-12-------------------------------------------
    -------------------------------------------------
    -------------------------------------------------

    and another one:

    Code:
    --------15-13-11-13-11-10--------------------
    ----13----------------------11----11--13------------------------------
    -12----------------------------10------------------
    -------------------------------------------------
    --------------------------------------------------------
    -----------------------------------------------------------
    -----------------------------------------------------------

    Some slides and hammer-ons are needed in this one.

    I like to do a bit of this:

    B| -0--0-0-0---0-0-0-00---0-0--0-0-.

    and sometimes a little :

    E| -2--2-2-2---2-2-2-22---2-2--2-2-
    B| -0--0-0-0---0-0-0-00---0-0--0-0-.

    Great thread!:yesway:

    Here's fifteen examples that I'd say sumarise my style on the electric fairly well. These aren't practiced examples, more demonstrations of concepts I use when I'm improvising. If you look in the 'song properties' section there's an explanation of each lick.

    Now all you have to do is guess who I'm ripping off in each lick...

    :yesway: Cool licks. The out sounding 6 string arp which is the 3rd lick I think is particularly awesome.

    :lol:

    the problem is that with most tab programs, they use Courier font, which allots an equal spacing for each character, giving you nice charts and whatnot with just dashes. however, the forum font is not Courier, so much like most other fonts, different letters get different spacings. i takes up less space than w, for example. the [ code ] tag changes the font to Courier, so that it's more readable, and makes more musical sense :)

    code tags turn this tab listed by Mike...

    E||-----12-14-16-13------------------------------------------
    B||--12-------------14-------------12-13---------------------
    G||--------------------13-------12-------15------------------
    D||-----------------------15-14-------------16-------14-12--
    A||--------------------------------------------12-11---------
    E||-----------------------------------------------------------

    into...

    Code:
    E||-----12-14-16-13------------------------------------------
    B||--12-------------14-------------12-13---------------------
    G||--------------------13-------12-------15------------------
    D||-----------------------15-14-------------16-------14-12--
    A||--------------------------------------------12-11---------
    E||-----------------------------------------------------------

    [ code ] just like lots of the other stuff on the site, it uses square brackets, without the spaces of course. [ / code ]
    Code:
     just like lots of the other stuff on the site, it uses square brackets, without the spaces of course.

    When I'm improving (i'm always playing with a bunch of classic rock fiends, which gets annoying after a while) i usually do a lot of pentatonics, but just so i don't go crazy, i cop a few paul gilbert licks, a la
    Code:
    E||-------------5---------------5-7-8-7-5---------||
    B||----5-8-7b-8---8-7-5---5-7-8-----------8-7-5---||
    G||--7------------------7-----------------------7-||
    D||-----------------------------------------------||
    A||-----------------------------------------------||
    E||-----------------------------------------------||

    and then off into some 3 or 4nps run.

    I've been trying to powertab a few licks I like to play in different styles but it's taking forever! Just grab a note and start randomly bending/sliding with your middle finger and you'll be close enough, heh. Correct pitch is for wimps and posers.
