    Hi everyone,
I'm working with Suhr Guitars to build a new line of 7 Strings.

I am doing research on what qualities people prefer in a 7 Strings here.

This information will help us for the prototypes coming out in January.

Basically, If you could make a Custom 7 string of your Dreams, what would your specs be? Im really pushing them to do this so, I need your guys' help.

Please include as much info as possible, what you like and don't like in things such as...

Nut Width....... 1.89" (48mm) most common for people?
    Neck scale...... 25.5", 26", 26.5", 27"
Bridge............ Locking Trem and Hardtails will be offered.
Neck Options... Shape, neck through, bolt on
Pickups........... Active pickups will be an option

Any options I might be missing, include if they are important to you!

(Options like woods on bodies, necks, Inlays, Paint, etc will be the most flexible in options of course.)

Here is my guitar, this would be the basic shape in 7 string version.

So if could maybe spend a minute or two, and help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it.

My dream seven? The Yamaha AES-RS7.

That said, here's what I'd buy:
Body style: single-cut cross between a Les Paul and an L5S
Alder body, 26.5" scale, string-through recessed TOM, Air Norton 7 bridge and PAF 7 neck
Maple neck with maple fretboard lacquered in the same finish as the body
Colors: Black, Grey, White, Vampire Red (all Metallic)

Or as a thinline hollowbody with a maple body and a tailpiece/floating TOM

Watch the huge fonts, extra exclamation points, and unnecessary caps and formatting. It kinda hurts my head. It also makes you look pretty unprofessional (not trying to be an ass, just a friendly pointer).

Anyway, I won't bother listing my own personal dream specs, largely because I'm not sure what they would be, but here are some features that tend to go over pretty well with the majority of 7-string players here:

    *27" scale
*5-piece neck-thru (probably maple with stripes of wenge or bubinga)
*Ebony or maple fretboard, probably with no fret markers (just on the side)
*Mahogany wings seem to be more or less preferred with the aforementioned neck construction, though alder would be fairly popular, too. This might vary a bit more from person to person, though. I'd kind of like to try koa, myself.
*There are lots of people who like passive pickups and lots who like actives. If you put actives in, at least go with Seymour Duncan Blackouts in the passive size. That way, people who want actives get them, and people who want passives can put passives in without having to worry about covering up holes around the pickups.

    body - mahogany
    bridge - kahler
    scale - 25.5"
    nut - 48mm
neck - 5 piece neckthru; very thin profile (like ibanez wizard)
pups - dimarzio X2N or evolution bridge; not sure about neck pickup
fretboard - ebony (not dyed); jumbo or medium-jumbo frets; no inlays
colour - transparent finishes of various colors, including natural

Scale: 25.5 or 27 The two most common scales and options are always a good choice.
Neck: Thickness wise slightly thicker than an Ibanez but has a very flat u shape. My perfect neck but maybe c shape over u is more comfortable to others.
Ebony/maple fretboards. No inlays except maybe a block at the 12fret with suhr written in it.
Pickups: Bareknuckles would be sweet but probably a weebit unlikely. Perhaps either Dimarzio Dactivators or SD Blackouts as options. (EMG routes are incrdibly annoying to switch out of if you don't plan on keeping them. Blackouts are actives that come in reasonable packages.
    Bodywoods: Mahogany/Maple or ash.
Finishes: Transblack, Violin, maybe a red.
    Bridges: Recessed Tom or ofr

Just leave plenty of options really. I've noticed sevenstringers tend to be even more picky about thier gear than sixers. Plus since we always tend to spend more we usually prefer to get what we want than spend less and get someone elses dream guitar.

27" neck: 5 pc korina wenge walnut composite with maple binding and glossy or unfinished bloodwood fretboard
    reversed headstock
heavy swamp ash wings with carved bubinga top
    hardtail
    stainless steel 6100 frets
    nanoweb strings
    bareknuckle pups
2 volume with pushpull for series/parallel, coil tap, and out of phase operations

I have no idea what it'll sound like, just throwing it out there

    4x3 headstock

Shape: A nice comfortable and tasteful X like an Ibanez Xiphos/Jackson Warrior or Charvel Star/BCR Stealth.

Body Wood: Mahogany (with maple top)

Neck Wood: Maple (Rosewood fretboard) or Mahogany (Ebony fretboard)

Simple inlays (but not the normal dots), inlay on the 12th, or none

    Bridge: string through or Floyd

Paint: Tobacco burst with black back.
    Binding: the natural top wood.

Electronics: 2 volume, 1 tone, toggle.

If I could, that's what I'd get. I'm not too picky.

I just absolutely love this Ran Yamaha 7 string knock off.
this body is not all that far off from the Suhr you have pictured at the beginning of this thread
something like this would be pretty killer (without the EMGs)

    mahogany body, Flame/Quilt maple top
    neck thru 24 jumbo frets
OFR 25.5 or 26.5 would work for me (I prefer 25.5)

Just want to thank everyone for helping me out!

I agree, but as of now, we are trying to gather information for our first prototypes. This is by no means a list of what every guitar would be limited to, just trying to find out people's ideas, opinions.

I always thought a double cut shape is pretty cool for a 7, but more choices are good in general. :)

48mm on the nut. I'd like to see locking and fixed bridge options as you mentioned. Please have options besides rosewood fingerboards. 25.5" and 27" scale would probably be the most widely accepted scales. Thinnish necks would be preferred from my personal taste. Reverse headstock option would be greatly appreciated. Drop tops on Mahogany, Alder, and Swamp Ash to have three tonal points of the spectrum covered would be nice options.

Hit the prototypes out of the park and I will be buying several. Im not kidding. Wind a seven string version of the Doug Aldrich pickup and you will have me retrofitting 20+ guitars.
