Happened at my school. The students were protesting slavery and this oppressive history of the US Government towards blacks throughout history (and current events) and sparked a total spitstorm. I don't exactly agree with HOW they protested, but it's their right and they bring up valid points. And the good ol' southern white citizens in Valdosta and it's satellite towns are mis-representing the issue to make it about them and the "symbol" of the flag. Then comes up this model (who posed with the flag on the ground, what she was "rescuing it" from at the college.)

I don't blame her at all. They're just a bunch of whining idiots anyways and they need to be called out for this kind of BS.

There are several issues to take into account.

    1)
She is not a "Beacon of Patriotism".
She was more than happy to drag the flag on the ground and use it as a ...... and tit cover when Playboy paid her for it.

She was demoted in the Air Force for disgracing the uniform and flag by her piers.
After her demotion , she still didn't take responsibility for her action and blamed everyone except herself. So she quit in order as a response to being demoted.

There is an issue with Conservatives latching on to "partiots" without vetting them first.
A prime example is Cliven Bundy. People were talking about arming themselves and fighting the Govt. because of his land and cattle.
Turns out he was a racist with some serious issues.

We all have skeletons , but I'm not going to follow anyone just because Fox News says that they are a "true American".

    2)
That flag they were stepping on is (I'm Assuming) viewed by them as a symbol of our Government. That flag represent us as a nation. But it also represents everything wrong with Washington.
Maybe our Government should have a separate flag that represents them.
Then people could walk on it to show their disgust in their failure to represent we the people.

They chose a way to get a reaction and it did.

The issue now is that they've uncovered his militaristic approach to this and he's openly threatened several students directly while at the same time posting on his IG about "white genocide" and other terroristic remarks. Again, I'd supported them up until that, but when they start threatening students and bringing loaded weapons on campus, then I draw the line and say "this isn't OK."

Seeing the news lately, I'd say that a little "whining" is justified. Racial prejudice remains a serious issue, particularly in conservative areas' police forces.

But...but if you stop talking about it, that means it doesn't exist right?

    Uh, what?

If they're getting anything from the government, they have to sit down and shut up?

    "I'm just saying..."

    "Just a thought..."

Don't be asinine. It's obviously a leading question, and that's the only way I can see it remotely working in. If it's not, it's completely irrelevant.

What does it have to do with the topic at hand if not what he felt you meant?

It's either irrelevant, or it means "they'll .... talk the government, but they have no issue taking aid from them."

One has no business in the thread, the other is a flawed viewpoint. Either way, being called out on it is fair game.

Okay, if you want to be a smartass:

How is that question relevant to this discussion?

What do you feel the implications are of either answer to this discussion?

like that flag is what gave you freedom. Never really understood people's obsession with flags, they're just pieces of cloth with colours. (not just americans do this although it does seem quite extreme there).

Symbols can be very powerful. Flags can make very potent symbols.

The U.S. flag represents the United States of America. To many, many, many U.S. citizens, this country gave us everything we wanted and more. People's dreams came true for living in this country. People from other countries came to this country for a better life and have become successful. To us, the ones who actually live here, our U.S. flag represents more than just pieces of cloth and colours.

I completely understand that U.S. citizens are going to be upset with something going on in this country, but this is the U.S., not the Garden of Eden.

I know, i think it's pretty scary that symbols can have such a huge attraction to people (again, not just in the US)

I understand the importance of the flag but the moment the flag becomes more important than human lives (as we've seen in the past year or so with all the protests), the thing can burn to hell.
