My equipment is an Ash 7 string into the pod then into the effects return of a peavey triple x and into a vintage 30 412. I'm using the big bottom model.

So I've gotten rid of the fizz using the low pass filter set to 4khz but I feel like there is probably a better way of doing it? I mean the rational part of me says that this is a ridiculous setting.

I don't know much about adjusting a POD ,but you could try running it into the clean channel for the extra EQ available, and extra tube stage coloration. The Clean channel of my 3120 is a pretty awesome pedal platform.
