This is the result of my local sales guy making me a deal I couldn’t refuse...

It was brand new and marked down from 3200 to 2500. I had the upper hand because I knew how badly they are trying to clear up wall space for new inventory so I told him I would buy it ONLY if he could sell it to me for 2200 out the door AND get me the 36 month 0% financing as well. He made the deal happen and I gave this unwanted pound mutt a new home.

Will post initial thoughts in a day or two but so far I think It suits me even more so than the Vader I just received which is an amazing guitar too. Not sure if I really need to keep both tho.

    Awesome!!!!
I want to play a USA model so bad; I tried out the Indo models and wasn't overly impressed.
    Enjoy!

Hey thanks for the compliments you guys!

I agree that the brushed nickel covers look better on these guitars but I didn’t want a juggy with the big “P” on the fretboard to get it. I will also say that I kinda like the more subdued quilt top on this guitar more than a deeper flashier piece. I had a JP15 up until recently that had one of the deepest quilts and flamiest roasted necks I’ve found, and after a while I felt it was TOO nice to the point of maybe gaudiness.

A couple of things I noticed right off the bat with the Jackson.

    1) the string tension is noticeably tighter than all my other guitars. No doubt this is likely due to the 26.5” scale and 11-64 string gauge set.

    2) this lil blue bastard resonates like a damn piano. Unplugged it’s present and lively sounding and plugged in it delivers strong sustain and powerful sounding low chords in drop A.

    3) it sounds better through my Mark IV than my Ares. For some reason the bkp juggernauts make the Ares sound loose unless I hit the front end with my Maxon 808. I rather like the juggernaut neck pickup tho. This may give me an excuse to try something fresh like an Elysian Trident or Hellfire in the bridge as I’ve already dabbled in BKP, Duncan and Dimarzio.

    4) Jackson uses the most uninteresting pieces of maple for the necks on these, but it feels rock solid and fills the hand nicely. Once again, I’ve had my fill of guitars with super figured woods and frankly I now find that a workhorse looking guitar that sounds like a boutique super-guitar is the best of all worlds.

HNGD, looks sweet. They're wonderfully specced guitars.
I've been sorely tempted by the blueburst or the silver sparkle versions but I just can't stand the jugg bridge (plus I'm trying to cut down on the number of guitars I buy ). that weird kind of cocked wah voicing drove me crazy after a while. The neck pickup was very nice sounding though not as fluid and buttery smooth as the cold sweat. If you're looking into elysian then the trident would be the tighter/snarlier "modern" sounding pickup, and the hellfire is hotter/thicker/chunkier sounding. Both are great pickups imo.

I feel the same with my USA HT6. One of the most resonant electrics I've played, right up there with the Blackmachine B6

Sounds like I might be getting a trident bridge then. Tho I do wonder how a bkp rebel yell 7 would sound. My 6 string RY’s are surprisingly tight and scream in my PRS.

I have a set of 7 RY's coming in my Padalka. I also got turned on to them after putting a set in my custom 24. After trying several pickup combos, I finally settled on those, they sound fantastic.

    Ok a quick update:

The guitar is great but two things need to change sooner than later. The string tension is far too tight for my liking. I believe it’s got an 11-52 set with a 64 for the low B. What set could I switch to that would lower the tension to a more comfortable level without being wet noodles?

Also, once again, the jugg bridge pickup is not getting along with me. It makes my Ares sound flabby, but I tried my rebel yell equipped PRS into the ksr to make sure it wasn’t the amp and the RY had bite and tightness so the jugg is just too fat for me.

I’d say try a 10-59 7 string set and see if that doesn’t solve both of your problems haha. Is the prs a 7?
