Given that we can load our own or third party samples, this should accept the old sample packs right?

^Yes any SD2 or EZ2 pack will work with it.

I wonder how good this is at replacing drums from audio files. If it's as good as Slate Trigger, this would be amazing.

Looks like some nice improvements over SD2. I like the idea of the plugin itself being able to do the triggering for replacement- I don't think 2 could do that (or I just never found the feature). Trying to get MIDI triggered off of real kits was always a pain for me, so if this can improve that process, they've got my attention.

Had to know this was coming based on how many promotional e-mails I got about crossgrading from EZ Drummer 2 to SD 2 for only $105. I wonder if the price of SD 2 will drop drastically now. Haven't ever used any of the SD Line. This new version does look pretty awesome though!

That $420 price tag sure is hefty though. Woof.

It is, but if you consider that Slate Trigger is like 200 bucks, this isn't so bad (if the sample triggering tool is as good as Slate Trigger...)

From those "bare bones" examples, I'm not particularly dazzled by any of the kicks or snares. :/

Well, looks like I'll be upgrading. I dig 2.3 or whatever I'm running these days (is there a 2.4?), but anything that makes the already-great tool better is probably money well spent.

Man, I just recently got SD 2.x. :frantic: Will probably wait for a sale. The reduced upgrade price is like $200+.

Very nice upgrades on paper, although probably not worth it for my current use (pure composing/pre-production stuff), but I would upgrade in a heartbeat if I had any kind of mixing/production work to do.
