I'm currently trying to sell my Peavey 6505 to get a 5150. Yeah I know they're the same but you know... that 5150 logo is just too cool xD
Anyway, I currently got mine on craigslist for 700 OBO. Did I price it too high? It's practically in mint condition and has been taken care of better than my health.

Sounds about right to me for a mint 6505.

I don't think it is too far out of range, but it seems like a hard time to sell 5150's, so you probably have a good price for people to lowball you and you still get a decent amount.

I just put my 8/10 block letter 5150 for sale for $650 shipped. Too much? I dunno. I guess we will see.

Overall, it seems like $550 - $750 is the range they are going for....

Why not changing the faceplate of your 6505 instead of selling it and buying a 5150? Cut the 5150 logo out of a brushed aluminium/steel plate, whatever, and replace your peavey logo with that?

I'd rather not mess with it since I have no experience working on amps whatsoever. I don't wanna accidentally damage it D:

Alternatively, how much do you guys think Guitar Center would give me for it?

About 60% of what you could get on your own.

they will shaft you hard, stay far away from them. i'd say you're best bet is to wait it out until someone bites on your current price, or save up for and buy a 5150 while you try to sell you're 6505. just as a precaution in case you sell your 6505 and then you're shit out of luck because there are no decently priced 5150s on the market (i know they'll always be for sale used, but the prices seem to fluctuate vastly all the time).

Definitely mod the faceplate. There is no way you can screw it up and it's a lot cheaper than having to sell and buy the same thing again. The front board with the logo has four screws holding it and the front grill on and itheyl affect nothing else.

I modified mine by removing the front panel board and making nicely painted wood blocks to hold the grill firmly in place. It's very cool. You can see the TOOBZ.

Since the issue is emotional, I'll suggest an emotional solution: 5150 = I'mma Van Halen fanboi, and I can't wait to tell my nerd groupies how much I love playing eruption and wow them with the factoid that 5150 is the California police term for a mentally disturbed person. Cuz I'm an insane guitarist, ya know!

Does that still sound cool? :)

Seems like a fair price to me. I've seen some go for 800 or more ( I wouldn't pay more than 750 for a used 6505).

I have actually never listened to Van Halen before

I will look into modding it to look like the 5150 though. It definitely does sound like a better idea than selling and buying. But... I'll give it some time and see what happens :p

One of my buddies, who was looking for a 5150, didn't even know that the 5150s were EVH signature series. :noplease:

    Just busting your balls. :D

But if you're going to change the plate, might as well make your own design. This is like a drummer wanting an Evans logo on a Remo bass drum head. Might as well get a custom logo Remo head. :2c:

Hahaha! That's funny xD Yeah, I know who he is and everything but I've just never been interested in hearing his music. I do love this amp though. Really great tone for metal :)

To OP, the price is about right! If it takes awhile to sell its only becaues of the economy, nothing wrong with your expected price. Cheers!
