Okay so guys, I'd like some reccomends as to what to get for the tone I have in mind.

I know I want to run Axe as a preamp through a tube, but I'd like some help as to what Pickups/Amp to get!

I'd like to get a similar clean tone to Charlies bluesy tone here. Fat, jazzy, almost organ-esque. Just without the overdrive/distortion.

And I'd like a distorted tone similar to Chon's but carrying over the same Jazzy fatness of Charlies tone.

Your help is much appreciated bros! :yesway::hbang:

The Charlie Hunter clip sounds to my ears like a single coil or P90.

The Chon clip... I was thinking Dimarzio PAF PRO or Air Classic. Almost Paul Gilbert-ish.

But I think the Axe, with enough time/tweaking, you should be able to get close with just about any low-medium output PU's.

Have you any info on what they use? That Chon is pretty cool!

Well hell, there's play through vids all over You Tube.

They seems to like Ibanez guitars. So it stands to reason that a Dimarzio of some sort is in order.

I know Charlie uses bartolinis, and Yeah Chon uses dimarzios. Thanks for the help btw dude, but I was looking for something more specific.

I'd love to know how to get those Chon tones. I can't seem to use low gain in that context without it just sounding a weak mess..And I don't mean technique wise.

Sounds to me like you want a good vintage-output humbucker, maybe splittable for tonal options, with a Fender Twin-ish amp sound and a good distortion pedal. wakjob's suggestion of a Paul Gilbert-type DiMarzio seems pretty good to these ears.

Looks like they commented on one of their vids saying they used Peavey vypyr 30's... at least for the videos.

Hi there. I'd agree with the assessments above - you're probably looking for a vintage to medium output pickup here. The SD pickups for that would be the 59, the Alnico II Pro, maybe the Pearly Gates.

I'd definitely get four-conductor wiring as you may find that for some of the "jazzy" tones you're after, you might like to try wiring the coils in parallel rather than in series. You get a bit of a drop in output, and somewhere between a single-coil and humbucker tone.

As far as Chon tones go, I've been able to get a similar tone with my Blackouts (!!) by rolling down the tone a bit, and the volume on the guitar end, and lowering the gain while using a compressor to keep sustain and volume. They have a lot of picking dynamics that I can't quite get because of my active pups, though.
