    what a roller-coaster ride...

this was looking like the time it was widely reported will smith's son jaden had died, but was fake news.
it seemed for a while there it wasn't true...now sad to see it really happened.

prayers go out to tom's friends, family and fans. rip

This one really hurts. I grew up on Petty's music. Such an amazing musician. will be missed.

I grew up on Tom Petty, and tie a ridiculous amount of my childhood memories with his music.
In fact, it's actually really difficult for me to recall a memory with my family that doesn't automatically set itself to a Petty song.

At only 66 too, Jesus Christ, what a travesty. I need to call my grandparents.

I used to play in (metal) band called "Mary Jane". At one gig we did our soundchecks etc. and they were playing all sort of songs via PA while the crowd gathered. One of them was "Mary Jane's last dance" (which is fucking brilliant song) - and you know what - it turned out it was the last gig of that band. True story, as weird as it sounds.

    Sad.
Wildflowers was the very surprising album that got me into his music, and it was very different to anything I was listening to at that time...
