Hello everyone! I'm sure a lot of the Carvin enthusiasts here know me by now but in case you don't (which is totally ok, I'm not that special anyways!) my name is Chris and I'm one of the sales guys here at Carvin Guitars in sunny San Diego, California! This thread will be where I post all the company announcements, any sort of discount runs that we may be doing, as well as photos of guitars and answering questions about all things Carvin. If you have any questions whatsoever please feel free to post in here or email me at ChrisH@Carvin.com or message me on Facebook. If you'd like to order a guitar please give me a call or send me a message and I'll make sure we get you something really killer!

Feel free to post your Carvin photos in here as well to show the world your awesome custom instrument! My colleague and Carvin Service employee Mike Jones will also hop on here and post photos just like the ones he posts on the Carvin BBS forum.

For those of you who aren't familiar with us or would like to know more about us, here is a little summary for you!

For close to 70 years, Carvin Guitars has been building high quality guitars and basses for pro and hobby musicians alike. We have always sold direct to the customer with no middle man markups so you can save a significant amount of money versus shopping with a traditional retailer. With Carvin you can order a high quality custom shop guitar without having to pay custom shop prices as you would with some of our competitors. With hundreds of options to choose from the possibilities for different combinations are almost limitless on these instruments. All of our guitars and basses are made to order in the USA at our factory in San Diego, CA, and our quality, craftsmanship, and service are second to none. Try Carvin today – we know you’ll be satisfied.

Give us a call with any questions or a no-obligation quote today! You can also take a look at all the models and options on CarvinGuitars.com. While you can place an order online, we recommend that you call one of our specialists to help you build your dream guitar because the online builder can potentially be a bit overwhelming and tricky. Not all options available on the guitars can be ordered online either so speaking to a specialist will definitely help you with getting the right options for your unique instrument.

Our phone lines are open from 9am to 6pm Pacific Standard Time, Monday through Friday only.

For customers outside of US and Canada please visit CarvinWorld.com for a dealer near you or for assistance in countries without a dealer.

Thank you for your interested and we hope to help you build your dream instrument soon.

    Cheers,

    Chris Hong

By the way, while these options are not available on the online builder just yet we are offering new passive pickups on our 7 and 8 string guitars and they are ready for order on an instrument right now!

Here are some sound clips done by some fellow SSO members that may help you get a better idea on how they sound. Currently they are available on models without any upcharge but this will change once we get them input into the system.

8 string shoot out by Simon Sludge
    https://soundcloud.com/sludgestudios/sets/8-string-pickup-shootout

7 string comparison with Duncans by Brody from Rivers of Nihil
    https://soundcloud.com/thelivingdoorway/kiesel-7-string-bridge-vs-seymour-duncan-nazgul

We will have a proper 7 string shootout by the Simon who did the 8 string shootout.

By the way, they are VERY versatile. This is just one style of music being showcased but they are really versatile. I personally play a lot of jazz influenced 7 and 8 string melodies and rarely ever go distorted for my ERG playing and I love the way they sound.

We are also developing 6 string pickups in the same vein and they are sounding killer!

If you have any questions on these pickups or would like to order a guitar with them installed please contact me!

    Cheers!

Hey Chris, great to see an official Carvin thread!
I just received this beauty yesterday :)

I am very happy, the guitar plays like a dream and sounds greats!
Looks like all the specs are exactly what I ordered which is rare those days with other builders....
Also I love the soft padded case, light but still looks like the guitar is well protected!

Now a couple comments on the whole experience:
    • Communication: Well I placed the order with one of your sales person on the phone and checked spec via email and gave him a CC number over the phone. Then I had to send emails every 2 weeks or so for a status update, but it would have been nice to get updates on the build process along the way. You know how did I know my guitar was ready? Got an alert from Amex that there was a big charge on my card... I'd appreciate more visibility, it's a $2000 item after all.
    • Pictures: I am a sucker for build pics, sometimes there's a picture of a finished guitar on facebook, mine wasn't there, I'd love to see my guitar along the way. Also what about a choice of top? Mine came OK but I am very picky about type of flames and would have appreciated being able to choose between a few tops.

Apart from that, keep it up!

I've bought 16 customs in three years or so. I think it suffices to say I love Carvin.

Thanks, guys! As a prospective customer, a couple of things I wish you'd do differently with your promotional images:

-Light your gloss-finish guitars differently - they always look excessively plasticky to me, like a bad Photoshop job.
-Highlight some of your more subtle builds. I understand that you guys are proud of your work with extreme figures and tricky finishes, but frankly, a lot of your customers have questionable taste in visual design, and the more of those guitars you show, the more that questionable taste becomes associated with Carvin as a company.

That said, I'll reiterate what I've said before: I really appreciate your willingness to provide options for the 7-string community, especially those of us who want guitars that aren't just another minor variation on the black superstrat archetype.

I've been a pretty harsh critic of carvin for the past couple of years, but it seems that since Jeff Kiesel has taken a more active role the company has made very encouraging strides forward.

I read on the carvin forum that there was a group buy organized. Perhaps organizing a similar group buy here would be a good idea.

I wouldn't necessarily want either of those things done. I like the promo shots, and if you check out the guitars that are highlighted in the Carvin GIS/GAS threads, it's more often not the more "tasteful" ones that get featured. Or not, hard to know if my taste matches yours.

But yea, dissociating yourself from what a majority of your customers order sounds like generally bad business advice, even if you yourself don't want to see hot pink bursted onto aqua blue quilt maple with gold hardware.

There's so much variety in the tops - is there a way to guarantee wood like the above ^^? Is it an extra option?
