We haven't had a good mockup thread in a loooong time. Feel free to post photoshopped pics/ halo/ormsby configurator shots/ crude hand drawings, whatever- as long as it relates to guitars.
    I'll start:

I'll play. My mockups aren't as colorful, but here's some stuff I've got kicking around:

First, the replacement for my botched explorer body (I'll revisit that explorer someday). Gonna mill this one today:
    floyd6-1.png

And here it is again with the pickup mounting "rings" in place. Can't wait to try this out.

Here's a headless multiscale seven string design i started a while ago. I need to retool the bevels a bit, but I like this one too. Takes some learnings from my turquoise 6 string headless and improves on the design (for instance, I should be able to reach the tuners more easily now).

And finally, whenever I feel like there isn't enough suffering in my life, I start to plan out building an archtop acoustic: The main thing holding me back right now is that the traditional way of mounting the neck and shaping the tenon WITH a neck angle seems super hard to do and I've not thought of a good way to do it precisely (read: on my CNC machine).

    I'm in the game also.
These are some entries I've made to the special JEM contest about 7 years ago (?). I'm not sure if I really entered the contest since i finished these in the last minute. Nevertheless, I think these turned ou cool and are much Vai-ish.

Wow I love that third one. If I was a better painter I'd ask if I could use the design.

With serigraph screens you don't have to. Maybe we could ask @pondman to do these for us... :D

I'm trying to figure out a way to make Vai's flower-patterned jem without making a replica.

How are you going about modeling the top carve in fusion360? I haven't found a good way to do it yet.

i use sculpt plane. then split the body.

it took me hours of playing around with it, until i got it looking right. now i just copy and paste the sculpt plane to new designs

Ah cool. So are the edges of the guitar not all on the same z level? IE could you easily put a binding on there or is the height not constant?

I suppose if it is close enough it'll work. Might just have to sand off some binding.

    Nice work Btw

All the outside edges are at the same level except the inside of the horns towards the neck pocket. Binding is totally do able.

I got the idea from the prs private stock guitars- it's just a dragon's breath/laguna fade texture all over the guitar.

I guess the hard part is finding a figured piece of maple for the neck that won't warp to all hell.

supposedly one-piece necks are more stable than multi-lam (according to tom anderson and suhr) but I think that's a load of shit, especially since they claimed laminations/glue can fail over time. Properly cured/dried woods shouldn't be warping/delaminating at all. If I was going to build a neck like that I'd just do a multi-lam of flamed maple billets.

Supposedly conventional wood glue can shift over time but seriously there's no way single piece is gonna be more stable than lam. I mean sure a perfect quartersawn piece should be just fine, UT you're a lot less likely to have problems with laminate.

@KnightBrolaire IMO this one would look better without so many visual bling, a less figured fingerboard and plane pickups would make the design/painting pop a hell lot more.
