There are so many things I could say about this build, but the two words that stick out in my mind the most are " challenging" and "rewarding"

What started out as a relatively simple build quickly grew into something with so many complexities, and ideas were being pushed creatively between Max and I.

To start, this is a Fanned Fret, classical spaced, 7 string electric flattop. Already a pretty unusual thing, but we pushed things into an incredible place.

The custom designed and built archtop style bridge houses 7 individual graph tech acoustiphonic piezo saddles, allowing the guitar to output acoustic tone, or blend acoustic tone into the magnetic signal chain.

But the most unique and incredible thing about this guitar is the pickups. Max is a player who often plays both basslines as well as lead lines at the same time, lots of people play like this, but there are very few guitars designed for this purpose. The most famous one would probably be Charlie Hunter with his Novax Guitars, which use both bass pickups and guitar pickups in the same body. Our goal was to do something similar, but in a less cluttered, more purposeful way.

What we ended up with was a p90 style pickup that is split into two halves within the same footprint, with each half being individually height adjustable. When the volume knob is pulled up, the bass half of both pickups is sent to to second output jack, and can be sent to a bass amp, or through a separate signal chain (such as an octave pedal). So now we have a guitar that can be an electric, an acoustic, as well as a bass, in any combination, whenever desired.

    Walnut top
    Chambered African Mahogany Body +neck
EI Rosewood fretboard, bridge + tailpiece

Really happy with how the wiring came out, considering there are 8 pickup leads, 7 piezo leads, 3 pots and 2 switches, 2 output jacks, and the entire ghost system.

    Thanks everyone!

More progress on the 7 string empress neck, and behind that is a new neck for my very first ever client, because... lets face it, i started selling guitars WAY before I should have, and that first guitar i sold was baaaaaaaaaad. But without that first guy asking me to build him one, i probably wouldn't be where I am today, so i'm bringing up his guitar to a good playing level with a new neck, but keeping the old body for nostalgia sake. Single scale neck on a gaboon ebony fretboard? two things i don't do anymore, so it feels pretty weird.

Kinda been radio-silent for the past while. Got lots of cool things in the works, and been busy finishing up a couple customs (and figuring out the details on a couple clients' second Jillards)

but here's a photo dump of the current 7 string empress on the bench, you can see exactly when I bought a new phone.

    Oh man.

I wish you challenged me to a 24 hour guitar build off :( That would have been fun!

<insert movie voice over>... Two worlds apart, they had the same goal... </insert movie voice over>

This is 19 hours. From a "hey, do you think we could...." to strings.

We did leave it overnight for paint to cure, is that cheating?

    Good luck!

I know a couple of you have already pledged, and thank you for that!

I've adjusted a couple of the reward tiers a bit, and there are still a few days left on the design choice ones, so if there was a certain body shape you would love to see me attempt, theres a perk for that.

We're also going to be throwing a bbq this friday the 4th, so if you're local you can stop by and watch me work/hang out/try some guitars.

Kickstarter update video: we are 39% funded with 19 days left!
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhHl0OuF5dQ&feature=youtu.be
if it gets funded, we will be giving away this guitar FOR FREE.

so far the specs are pretty sweet:

Body shape (uknown, could be decided by you)
    african mahog body
    one pc. curly redwood top
    cocobolo fretboard
either a 1pc maple or mahog bolt on neck.
    6 string, 25-26.25" Fan Fret
Pickups (unknown, could be decided by you)

basically there are design choice perks that can control certain aspects of the build, and if you claim them, you get to help shape this guitar.

    donate here =]
