Hey everyone! I figured i would use this thread to update you guys on anything i'm working on. Most of it will be for one off custom orders and any personal builds, but it may also provide some insight into my workshop, in progress builds, special projects, and maybe some R&D stuff.

I am really excited to let you guys know a few things right off the bat.

    1. SS.org Members get a 5% discount from me. (not stack-able with similar discounts for being a member of other sites)

    2. My facebook/twitter followers receive an additional 5% off when ordering directly from me.

and this is really good news, because in the very near future i will be opening up a limited run of custom Empresses, and you guys at sevenstring will get first dibs on many of the free upgrades i will be offering (including some stunning one of a kind fretboards and tops) . It will likely be a run of 10-20 guitars, with many wood and design options free of charge, so keep an eye out for that coming soon.

anyways, i will start things off by posting some pictures of guitars i have done in the past. followed by a little bit of information about myself.

    thank you for looking,

    Jay Jillard.

Now, a little bit about myself.

I am a young luthier living in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. I built my first guitar (the paduak bodied one 4th from the top) in woodshop in grade 10. From there I have gone on to expand my craft to something I am proud to have others have and play. I know what it takes to build a truly amazing guitar, and i know how much it can mean to a musician to have a guitar that responds to them intimately. I have mostly built for local bands and musicians in Ontario, but i have also traveled as far as Switzerland with my creations, commissioned to co-build two guitars and teach a guy there for two weeks. (the walnut topped RR style V, pictured above in front of some less brutal flowers.)

But my most notable achievement thus far, is building for the Juno Award winning band "Said The Whale" You can hear it being played in many of the live videos from the past year, and on the upcoming EP 'I love You' and the full album that will surely follow.

Apart from guitars, I am a bit of a beer snob, and i dabble in various other hobbies.

alright, enough with the wall of text. i look forward to getting to know everyone here.

    -Jay J.

Those look awesome, love the traditional style but with some really great looking woods. If they play as good as they look, and I'm sure they do, you'll go far!

Thanks =]. i appreciate that. and yes, a lot of what i do has a huge nod to the more vintage stuff, but just fancier. But my newly redesigned Empress is starting to push a few more of those boundaries into something much more unique. and i have totally fallen in love with fanned frets. so a lot of my builds are incorporating that as well.

So, heres my table from a charity auction i was part of. it was really good exposure and it was nice talking to a bunch of people.

and here is some wood for a custom ordered build im starting. quilted maple, spanish cedar, zirocote fretboard, fancy hardware, and some pretty cool carves.

and MAN. i can't wait until i get a chance to respray this thing (it has a blemish on the back due to an unfortunate accident. Since this is a personal build, it has just been left aside for the past year. should find some time this summer to finish it off.)

First up is a custom order i'm working on for a guitar collector in ohio.

    heres some stuff i used

cut the backplate out before gluing the back on,
    [IMG]

resulting in a perfectly grainmatched cover.

    neck pocket
    [IMG]

nice phat roundover on the back, will also be getting some other contours.

    some inlay work
    [IMG]

    some neck stuff
    [IMG]

    and some stainless steel frets

in other news, i've been working on this acoustic for a while with Loucin Guitar Co.

this was a pretty intensive carve and stain job. came out pretty good i'd say.

started out by masking some areas

and applying some zpoxy with a small paintbrush.

then it was on to staining after that dried and i cleaned it up with a razor.

i started with a dark blue, then sanded that back.

then i went at it with a lighter blue.
i decided to do a slight burst on the back of the guitar, to help blend things in nicely with the curviness of the carves.

here is the headstock, without any sealer on it yet.

and i also stained the two pinstripes on the neck to match. shown here with the oil finish on it.

and lastly, here is the top, with the first sealer coat on it. it should pop even more when it hits lacquer.

i must say that i am pretty jealous of my client.

I love the staining of the pin stripes on the neck, it adds a really cool look to it. As well that's a gorgeous colour you stained the body, I also really like the little areas you left unstained it gives it a cool effect on the top. Great job :yesway:

I would do filthy, filthy things to get my hands on that hollow-body LP, fanned fret bass, acoustic, or crazy blue/natural stained carve top.

    Extraordinary work, sir!

finished up gregs build, also a fanned fret, set neck strat. I was aiming for a blend of vintage and modern with that one. i think i nailed it.

Greg's guitar, finished. about to leave my hands and i'll miss her. I tried to get the color as close to real life as possible.

Two very beautiful guitars, I love how the cavity cover matches the grain with the quilt back! I like the body design, reminds me of EBMM Armada, except this one looks good ;)
