I literally have soooo many bodies from Squier Strats that I have pillaged for parts, and I was tired of looking at the pile of them... So this happened. I know a forum member here who basically did the same thing, which was documented on a different forum. So, if you're watching, keep quiet.
So here's where I started this morning. This was actually a great sounding strat, and it even passed the Ormsby test:lol:.

After a few minutes with the orbital sander.
Squared up a piece of maple, but actually made it a wee bit too narrow.
    And fitted
    [IMG]
Still passes the Ormsby test. You can see where I cut it too narrow and the swimming pool route is still visible.

    Thats all for now.

No replies? Maybe this will draw a bit more attention.

    26.5-25.5 fan perp 8. It'll probably get a 14" radius.

Cool idea, looking good so far. I want to see a veneer cap, just cause I don't like pickguards.

    Clever girl!

What are you referring to as the Ormsby Test?

The guitar body can be picked up and held by tightness of neck joint.

That's what I was guessing, but I've definitely known about that longer than I have Ormsby. Not that it really matters

That was the original plan, but then the gas struck. I saw a really nice seafoam green strat at Guitar Center yesterday and decided I wanted one. Its gonna have a single ply white guard.

    Thanks!

Yeah, Ormsby sure didn't invent it, but I actually started seeing people say "Ormsby Test" on other forums and stuff and thought it was pretty funny.

Oh, and just to give credit where it's due, I completley ripped of Jay Jillard, who basically did the same thing a couple years ago.

If you're gonna go sea foam green then I'd say a white pearl pick guard would be the way to go

Well, colour me interested. I'd be very tempted to try something like this myself, if I had the tools

    Thanks for the replies guys
I've been thinking about the pickguard options, the door is still wide open. I did some crappy mockups just to think about it. It will have a slanted black humbucker with two slanted white strat single coils. The mockup has the pickups slanted the wrong way.

I'm actually kinda liking the tortoise guard.

I didn't make a white or black mockup cuz ya'll know what those look like.

For some reason I only like the Seafoam Green + tortoise PG combo when it's worn to shit. Only one way to get there, though.

I wanted to try a new way of inlaying, so here it goes. I drilled my fret markers a bit smaller than normal, not exactly sure how big, but I didn't want the huge fender style inlays mucking up the fretboard.
So I mixed together some sawdust, titebond, and black chalkboard paint. I had to use a bit more paint than I wanted to get them completley black, so they took a while to dry.
    And filled in the holes.
All sanded down. I think that it looks pretty good.
Then I rounded the heel to get a more stratty feel.

Routed out my truss rod channel. I had some issues with the first pass which were luckily removed by the second pass.
Then I cut out my headstock.I thought I'd like the parker headstock much more than I actually do.
    14" radius
    [IMG]
Some evidence from my first pickup swap, I needed to enlarge the screw holes on the baseplate, and decided it was a good idea to do it on top of the guitar body. Shouldn't be hard to fix.
    Bit of a mockup.
Its been a bit aggrivating trying to think of which steps to take and when. I have to take on a completley different process than normal.
