    Hey guys...

I move to Seattle in a few short weeks. Anybody living in or from that area? I literally know no one except the few random folks I met out drinking after my interview.

Hey dude! I'm a UW student in the University district. I just turned 21 too so we should grab a drink. I'm pretty familiar with the good venues/metal bars in the area too.

Sweet! I'm set to get there around May 1.

How are the prices in university district? I heard the rent is fairly reasonable there. Looks like it can vary a good bit in the Seattle area.

Better the U District than downtown and cap hill. I'm in Belltown and the rent is insane; definitely moving next year...basically anywhere within walking distance of amazon is going to be expensive. If you don't need to live in Seattle, I'd recommend looking at Issaquah; close enough to easily bus/drive between (least traffic in the area) and the rent will typically be $400-500 less than Seattle proper if you live alone.

I'm actually working at Amazon. Buy Issaquah is the main place I've been looking. Seems close enough to the city that my commute won't completely suck. I kinda want a chill quiet area with easy access to the city.

A lot of folks complain ab Seattle traffic but it actually seems better than DC traffic.

I also looked at Redmond, Kirkland and Bellevue. Bellevue doesn't look terrible everywhere but definitely higher rent. I'm trying to keep it at or below 1600 / month while I wait for my house to sell.

Another Seattle guy here. The traffic is better than DC traffic for sure... but it's still pretty terrible.

The Guitar Store on Aurora kicks as$. The Trading Musician is like two blocks from my house in Ravenna and its entire inventory is used/traded guitars.
Check out the Ravenna area. It's residential like Issaquah but way less suburby and near a lot of happening districts of Seattle that you can quickly bus to.

+1 for the Guitar Store on Aurora.
There's also a great guitar teacher in that area if you're looking for lessons... http://seattleguitarteacher.com/

In addition to the shops listed, check out Dusty Strings if you're interested in acoustic guitar and other acoustic instruments. They do have a few electrics (mostly Collings), but they primarily focus on acoustic guitar, mandolin, hammered dulcimers, harps, hand percussion, ukuleles, tin whistles, etc.

As an aside, where the hell have you been for the past 6-12 months, Konfyouzd?

Spent the last 2 days looking at places and so far Bellevue is looking pretty good. I'm going to check out a few places in the city tomorrow...

I ended up picking a place in Burien. In town one more night if anyone wants to grab a drink. Staying at the Crowne Plaza downtown. PM me if you'll be out and about.

I'm not in Seattle, but I've visited family there several times. I think you'll like it much better than DC/VA, just be aware that the airport is always a cluster fuck and anywhere even remotely touristy is filled with tourists not paying attention to anything around them, so be careful when driving in touristy areas so you don't run someone over (they won't even try to get out of the way like people in DC, they'll just stand there like morons).

I lived in DC for 15 years before moving to Seattle. DC is great, but I pretty much love everything in Seattle just a little more.
