What's everyone's favorite old games (ie on anything that is older than the current generation of consoles etc or PC's)?

I've just gone and got myself Soul Blade and Final Fantasy VII of ebay. I loved both games, despite them not looking brilliant anymore. The game play is just, well, fun (and they were "vaguely" cheap, for some reason FF7 goes for a fair amount)

I'm also thinking of getting a dreamcast and get old games for it on the cheap...hmmm... I see another addiction coming on...

Dead or Alive 2 for Playstation 2! Man, that game owns. Not to mention the first Red Alert. The Ranger-jeeps were great, as well as the russian grenadiers and flamethrowers.

I'm still partial to the video game classics of the 80s. 2-D happiness. :hbang:

How old are you? 2 years does not make a game retro :D

Retro is like NES, SNES, Arcade, Genesis, Intellivision, Sega Saturn, Atari 5200, Atari 2600, etc.

I'm a total nerd when it comes to retro games.

    Apple II:

    Zork I, II, III
    Karateka
    Lode Runner
    Captain Goodnight

    NES:

    Double Dragon I, II, III
    Ninja Gaiden I, II, III
    TMNT
Castlevania I, II (Castlevania II is one of my top 5 all time favorite games)
    Strider
    Kung Fu
    The Legend of Zelda

    SNES:

    Final Fight
    TMNT 4
    Street Fighter 2
    Mortal Kombat

    PC:
    (90s era)

    All the Commander Keen games
    Front Page Sports Football
    Leisure Suit Larry 1, 5, & 6
    Space Quest I-IV
    Duke Nukem 3D

SNES had great graphics, but I failed to find many games that were as fun as the old NES games. Castlevania II killed. I love that game.

"Shadowrun" for the Genesis. A few years ago I found an emulator and ROM and I'll fire that up every now and again. Very cool RPG, I wish someone else would do a Shadowrun game.

That one's a fuckin' classic. After I finish my CD, I'm downloading an emulator and trying to beat that (I never owned a NES as a kid, so it'll be totally fresh to me, really). I say after because I'll never get it done if I do it before. :D

Anyone else play the King's Quest series on PC? I had IV and spent a LOT of time playing it as a kid - I guess it was far and away the biggest game ever made when it first came out. I don't think I ever beat that one...

Also, honorary mention for Myst - it's not THAT old, but it completely changed the way people viewed "puzzle" games... Hell, it sorta invented its own genre.

I don't remember that one, but even the newer Zeldas kick a good amount of ass, so you're probably onto something ;)

I disagree, dude. I look at the SNES as the greatest system ever (mainly because it had the best games) and I look at SNES as the golden age of video games.

    Favorite "retro" games:
    NES:
    Zelda 2: Link's Adventure
    Mario 3
    Startropics
    Battletoads
    Megaman (all of them)
    Contra
    Kirby's Adventure
    Tetris
    Metroid
A Boy And His Blob (kind of stupid game, but I have good memories)

    SNES:
    Chrono Trigger
    Final Fantasy 6
    Secret Of Mana
    Castlevania V
    Super Metroid
    Super Mario World
    Super Mario RPG
    Kirby
    Shadowrun

    Sega Genesis:
    Kid Chameleon
    Sonic And Knuckles/Sonic 3
    Street Fighter II

    Gameboy:
    Zelda: Link's Awakening

    Arcade:
    Vampire Savior series
    Marvel VS Capcom

    Computer:
    Zork
    Fallout
    Warcraft II
    Age Of Empires II
    Quake II
    Unreal Tournament
    ETC. ETC. ETC.

    Playstation:
    Final Fantasy VII

Those are just a FEW. I have hundreds more. Yes... I was a HUGE gamer back in the day.

Yeah. I played every single King's Quest, Space Quest, and Quest For Glory game. My favorite BY FAR was Quest For Glory. Those games rocked SO hard. Especially Quest For Glory IV: Shadows Of Darkness (I think that was the title).
