I recently got into pop punk and want to know the best bands in the scene.

The bands I have heard so far: Sunrise Skater Kids, Paramore and MCR (although I don't like them so much).

    Thank you!

Pretty much the only pop punk act worth listening to is Billy Talent, if you're after anything more than skin deep, tbh.

a wilhelm scream, propaghandi and bigwig are not pop punk, at all . You're in the "skate punk" wheelhouse with all those recommendations (which is awesome by the way :yesway:).

new found glory, bearings, sum 41, seaway, we were sharks, blink 182, green day, Snacks?, that's pop punk.

Back in my pop punk days it was Blink 182, Sum 41, Greenday 75

Does the Alkaline Trio count as pop punk?

I think alkaline trio counts as emo? I'm sure some people argue both ways haha.

Check out Forus, not pop punk so much but kind of prog skate punk. Also Motion City Soundtrack. Their albums Go, Even if it kills me, commit this to memory, and I am the movie are all really good. I'd listen to them in that order too.
I also second alk3 up through agony and irony, after that is meh imo.

Lol @ the Billy Talent comment, although their first album is pretty kick ass.

Look up Drive Thru Records, their like entire label was pop punk...

    but

    Blink 182
    New Found Glory
    The Starting Line
    Something Corporate
    Allister
    The Early November
    + 44
Fall out Boy (but only the first couple of albums)
Taking Back Sunday (First two albums)
Brand New (first album only although their other music is better just not pop punk)

Doubt you will find it anywhere online but a band called Handheld, they were pop punk masters when I was growing up but were mostly local to Ontario scene, and were back before internet was good so not much up online.

Billy Talent's demo version of Try Honesty is like way, wayyyyy better than the album version. Seriously, what the hell were they thinking?

    Demo version

Some of these suggestions aren't even vaguely pop punk. Hilarious how drastically different a lot of people define the genre.

Instead of asking for opinions on one of the least consistent message boards of all time (in terms of people agreeing on genres :p), I'd say just check out the various bands listed on Wikipedia, you're bound to find which variation works best for you.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pop_punk

I will say though that my two favourite pop punk bands are The Lillingtons & Sugarcult.

In my mind, Bright Eyes is "emo". Or Hawthorne Heights. In either case you can hear how those bands aren't punk.

On the other hand, AFI is a punk band. And then on Sing the Sorrow, they abandoned pure punk and started to incorporate pop rock. So that's why I sorta consider them pop-punk. Of course, I do realize that thematically and atmospherically they are "darker" than say Blink 182's Dude Ranch... but is image really the end-all measure of a sub-sub-genre?

    -----------

Will we say that Bayside is pop punk? This band I can at least admit is stylistically pretty removed from "punk", but all my pop-punk loving friends are crazy about them.

Guttermouth. There's a name I haven't heard since high school. I had a friend that loved to play their song with the chorus "I hate pets." I've never heard anything else!

I always liked Jimmy Eat World's "Bleed American" cause I'm a tool. It probably is more alt-rock than pop punk though, huh?
