A bit of tall order, I know. What's good around that price range?
I am looking for a pointy guitar that can gig and has a Floyd Rose. Preferably in standard colors, so black or matte black :) I'm willing to entertain other colors too.
    Thanks!

I recently ended up with a Jackson Warrior (I forget what model exactly) that was a solid guitar, pointy, has a floyd, and was in that price range. I got it in a trade, no idea what they're worth new. Your description definitely says "Jackson" to me though.

Ideally RR USA, but no way I can get one at that price :)

The Jackson JS models are definitely too cheap in feel and playability. I also ended up returning 2 different Chinese LTDs that ticked the right boxes at $600 but had frets sticking out and some paint and fit issues. I ended up keeping an Indonesian LTD-400 but compared to my LTD-1000 used that I got for less than the LTD-400 price new, the older used LTD smokes the newer one out of the water.

I like the King V and RR shape, preferably reverse headstock. The old Jackson headstock though, hate the new one that they put on some of these. The Kelly is also fine. The Dean and LTD headstock bothers m, unless it is reverse.

I hear that Jackson have started painting the sharkfin "inlays" on new models :barf:

    Here's the painted on sharkfin:

Plenty of used Japanese made RR3 models in your price range.

Yeah, they're pretty common actually. I've seen them go for $350, but between $400 and $600 depending on color or any upgrades is more common.

Yeah, quick look at GC shows quite a few used in that price range.

FYI Jake Pitts is one of the guitarists for Black Veil Brides as well as another project he is on. A pretty good guitarist IMO. Kinda wasted in BVB but oh well. I do agree with you headstock comment though.

MIJ Jacksons from the "Pro" series (not the "Professional" series, there's a difference) usually go for around $300 from private sellers and have excellent build playability. Licensed Floyd, but the one on my KE3R has always been reliable.

Alternatively, those MIK "NJ Deluxe" BC Riches from a few years ago are great players, and, when bought used, should be about in your price range. The "Speed V" was one of the shapes; satin black with white binding, and a real Floyd (albeit Korean, not German) on that model.

They had some really bad builds too, in terms of binding, etc. Remember one of the guys in my previous band had a BCRich NJ Deluxe Korean strat. It played great but it was a bit flawed on the binding. I might look up a Warlock, Rich Bitch or Mockinbirds. What should be best years in those? Links appreciated.

So far that Jake Pitts guitar looks best, even with the fugly headstock.

1986 and earlier are the best BCR imports, but probably out of your price range (those go for almost as much as the 1993-1999 US guitars these days). The next best are the 2008-2015 NJ Deluxe series. 1994-1999 (both Platinum and NJ -- same series, aside from the name changing before Platinum was reintroduced as a lower line in the 2000s) are also pretty solid, and should be easily within your price range, although I'd take a pro-series Jackson over those any day. Avoid any BCR import from 1987-1993 or 2000-2007.

My perfect guitar would be a GIbson V if it weren't for the outdated tuners, pickups and bridge (need Floyd Rose). Otherwise, shape and style are probably the best IMO.
