So I have a new Douglas Hadron 727 on the way that I am super excited about. One because it is the first neck-thru I have owned, first guitar with a 27 inch scale, and the first guitar with a Floyd in it. My only hang up is that I have read that the licensed floyds in these wear out really easy and the best thing to do is block it, but I want to join in the trem wankery that I have drooled over in the years. Is it possible to change the licensed Floyd for a better one that isn't as prone to wear? Also since my knowledge of mods is limited to pickup swaps, how labor intensive will it be to change this part out?

Depends on the dimensions of the licensed bridge. Some of them are direct swaps, some swap with a little bit of routing to the edges of the cavity, some require the trem posts to be replaced and routing, etc.

Worry about it when it wears out.

You’ll be fine. Just enjoy it, and it the knife edges end up wearing down, it can be fixed then.

    These guys get it.

Until it wears out just get better at setting up and maintaining it.
