Just snagged an Engl E530 (finally) off HCAF, and I'm one step closer to my rack. Korg DTR-2, Power Conditioner, and I've got a line on a Pod Pro, DBX Compressor/Gate, and a furman PQ-3 Parametric Eq. for now, I'm probably going to be running it through the power stage of my Madison Divinity or the 5150 II sitting in our practice room, but I'm trying to sell the madison and I don't own the Peavey, so when the madison goes, I'll need a power amp. I've heard the pods don't like tube power amps, but I do, so I'm looking at everything. The tones I'm looking for are pretty clear-cut. I'm gonna try use the pod to get a REALLY processed tone like: and i'd really like to be able to get a tone resembling the guitar tone on Arsis' "A Diamond For disease" I know that Malone uses (used?) Randall solid-state amps for a long time, but no idea what that was recorded with. keep in mind I don't necessarily want to emulate the tones, just get kinda in the same ballpark. really tight, with a lot of... snap? a ton of really precise gain, with as little sag and sponge as possible for that reason I've ruled out stuff like the Mesa 2:100, and if possible, I'd like it to be 6L6 powered (if tube), but SS is fine, too. As always, cheaper the better, but i'd like to keep it under... $700, new or used. I'm sure there's some stuff that's off the beaten path that would be great.
