I have an old guitar with vintage passive pickups, humbuckers made of unpleasant plastic with open rusty poles. Since they sound actually damn good and I want to repaint with further glossy finnish the whole guitar anyway, I thought why not pickups as well. But it seems it happens not often, so if people don`t do it constantly, maybe there`s smth I miss. Will it affect magnetic field or what other problems I can come across with?

Painting plastic pickup bobbins sounds like a major pain in the ass.

I'd just grab some Bobbin Toppers.

I painted the bobbins on my rg370 with acrylic paint way back when, certainly doesn't look professional but doesn't affect the sound at all.
