After months of searching, I FINALLY found the UCS Millennium Falcon in stock! (At amazon of all places. I set a google alert, and I finally caught one before it was sold out.) It’s the largest set ever - over 7500 pieces. It’s so big, the mini figs fit in life sized! It was $799, which is RIDICULOUS. But I couldn’t help myself. I won’t be able to retire ever, at this rate, but at least I’ll have a kickass Lego set! I know I could have gotten the Chinese kickoff Lego sets, but if you’ve seen my Chinese knockoff rants, you know how I feel about that BS. Anyway, it’s techincally a gift for my wife, as she’s quite nerdy. She’ll kill me for spending the money, but will love it in the long run. (I hope!)

Yeah, that is ridiculous money.........but it's huge! And how much ridiculous money do we all spend on gits & gear? As long as you don't have to start selling yourself on the next corner, enjoy that beast of a build - you and the wife!

$800 for a fucking lego set? And I thought 2k to smell Gene Simmons stinky tuna casserole and coffee breath in order to get his Vault box set was extravagant. I don't care how many pieces it has; $800 is a ridiculous sum to pay.

But, it's your money, so do as you wish. Have fun, I guess?

Except our gear isn't 7500 ways to devalue our investment by losing a small lego block.

A colleage of mine actually earns serious money with LEGO sets. He buys the big limited packs and sells them two to four years later at twice the original price. Always wondered who buys that stuff - now I know... :cond:

I think sourcing a replacement block, depending what type of course, is probably easier than sourcing, let's say, Ibanez parts outside of Germany

Spending money on a gift for your wife isn't a poor life decision, that's just good strategy.

Damn that sounds awesome. And yeah, sometimes you just gotta go for it and have fun. Life’s short, max your 401k, pay your mortgage, buy legos. - Lionel Messi

Yeah, it IS a lot of money, but what I’ve learned, as @Lemonbaby said, is that these Ultimate Collectors Sets appreciate in value pretty seriously. That’s not why I’m buying it, of course, but it’s interestinf that people do that.

My wife found out I’m getting it for her, and said it’s too expensive, and that we shouldn’t do it. But I still got it. Even if we return it, I still get the husband points! Plus, I’m betting she will want it once she sees it. We’ve been together for a while now, and never buy each other gifts on holidays or birthdays, so I kind of wanted to make a gesture anyway.

I'm so close to pulling the trigger on this. Am I crazy to do this?

EDIT: FUCK I missed this, I saw it last night, hesitated and now it's gone, fuck!!

Haha, now you’re going to have to do the same thing as me - wait for an eternity! But the good news is that they say they’ll be back in stock most places super soon.

Looks like the Porsche 911 GT model dropped $100 in price, so it's the same price as the old X-Wing fighter that I could buy; I've got one of the Resistance X-Wings paired with my Kylo Ren TIE, so maybe it's time my F1 got a mate...

I DIDNT NEED THESE PROBLEMS IN MY LIFE RIGHT NOW MAN

But that's NIB. I couldn't possibly keep something like that in a box for years. If I bought two ...
Wait, you're married? And you're buying the crap you're buying?

Haha, yes. But, the key is to keep selling stuff, to make room for new stuff. And yeah, NIB fetches the most. Though, already built stuff still sells well. But, largely the reason I do these things, is that I have these bouts of wondering what the hell life is all about. Like, I bust my ass at work, and then tax laws change, or my 401k takes a hit from the stock market, etc. And then if I get hit by a bus tomorrow, what was it all for? So, I don't have a fancy car, and I don't do fancy dinners or anything like that. I'd like to travel some, but the kids are little, so I can't do that. So I figure I'll just save some for their college, keep my retirement account funded, and then try to not just work, save, work, save, just to maybe lose it later.
