    Hey all,

I don't post about it here but I opened a guitar store this year and we've started rolling out video content. I thought some of you might like this OD shootout we did. The Archer is my go to boost these days and gives a real unique, transparent flavor as far as boosting an amp goes but you don't see heaps of people using it for metal.

    Thanks for doing a shootout!
They all sound very similar IMO.

Awesome, thank you for posting this.

I'm torn between the PD and the Archer. I've never actually heard of the Archer before, I'll have to check one out.

It's definitely subtle when you're stacking that much gain, but they are all dialed in veeeery differently.

Thanks for the vid. Seems pretty subtle yet still noticeable.
As a long time TS808 owner, I'm still not sure if it would be worth it for me to upgrade to a Precision Drive (I also have an eye on the SD 805 Overdrive).
Hmmm, I'd love to hear more opinions on these.

Looks like the Iron Label baritone.

I can quite hear a difference between them. The TS is the muddiest, the PD is the tightest, and the Archer is the most aggressive.

yeah I'm in the same boat, I don't think the PD would be a huge upgrade for me over my OD808x, though the gate feature is tempting me since that's a pretty unique offering.

If I were judging by the video alone, I would definitely check out the PD over the standard TS9/TS808/OD808. Dunno about the OD808X though.

I prefered the Archer. Interesting hearing it do something other than boosting a clean channel.

Yeah, when I hear people use Klones, it's to fatten leads. Never heard it being used as a modern metal boost. Works quite well.

I rarely even hear it used like that. It's mostly some schlub playing blues licks over a clean channel, and adjusting the knobs on the Klone.

I think this video convinced me to start using a Klone as my main boost...

The only thing is that the tone in the video is already tight without a boost, they are using the boost more for attack and compression than tightening the bass. I think that's why the Klone works well in that context. The pick attack and compression sounds absolutely monstrous in that video with the Klone imo.

I think I'm going to buy a ehx soul food similar cheaper klone, mod it closer to Klon specs (like putting in Ge diodes in the soul food for instance), and add a rotary switch for changing the input caps. That should allow me to go from fat sounds with large input caps all the way to obscenely tight on lower input caps. The precision drive (I would assume based on the functionality of the attack switch), EQD palisades, and the FAC on the orange OR-120 all use that technique.

the archer and the PD both have me intrigued.

Sure thing, should be a super easy mod when I get the time to do it. I probably will pick up a soul food next week after I deal with the hurricane this weekend.

In the clip, it actually reminds me of a Boss SD-1 without the extreme low-end cut.

Yeah. More focus in the high mids/treble than the center-mids like the TS9 and PD.
