So, technically, I've already been using these for some time now, but after grabbing a bunch of different pickups used and experimenting for a few years, this was the set I kind of settled on, and I finally decided I was happy enough with them that it was time to buy a new set to get the cosmetics where I wanted them, instead of the matte Sentient and gloss Custom (and, there was something funky up with the magnetic orientation of the Custom anyway).

Huge thanks to Randy for taking care of the order -- super easy to work with, kept me in the loop but also didn't totally bombard me with messages, etc. Duncans are kind of new territory for me, and I've never played ANY of their singlecoils, so this could be trouble.

And now, on to the guitar porn:

I broke the arm holder overtightening it after noticing it was a little loose right after taking this, but it's a tremol-no equipped guitar so I just locked it down and went right on back to shredding anyway. New one's in the mail.

Oh, I've been using these for ages - the Sentient has been in there over a year now, I think, and the Custom probably at least 3-4 months. I bought them both secondhand, they were a bit worn and cosmetically mismatched (Sentient is matte black, the Custom is gloss), and additionally something was up with the magnetic orientation of the Custom. So, I figured since I was pretty sure these were going to be keepers, I might as well spring for a new set in matching black/cream zebra.

When you mean custom is it the SH-5 model? I love that pickup!

Yeah, SH-5 Custom. I don't understand why Duncan guys use the model number rather than the name - Dimarzio guys don't talk about the DP409, they talk about the Blaze or PAF Pro or the Super Distortion.

    Awesome sounding pickup, though. :yesway:

Some of the Duncan models don't have number names, too. So it does get confusing.

Yeah, I love this guitar. Looks, sounds, and plays phenomenally.

I swapped out the broken bar holder, by the way - Floyd has changed the push-in design and the bar now sits at a lower profile and a little closer to the body, which I found was WAY more comfortable.

Thank you! I need to shoot some new video with it now that I've finalized a pickup set.

Looks Nice! I'm a huge fan of the Custom/SH-5 but have never tried a Sentient

The Sentient is awesome - a hair dark and woody but with a good clear singlecoil-esq attack. I'd peg it somewhere between maybe an Air Norton and a PAF Pro, on the Dimarzio side; the Sentient and the Custom are very different sounding pickups (whereas it's intended mate the Pegasus is very reminiscent in tone, though with obvious position differences), but IMO they compliment each other very well.
