    Hi all,

First time poster - apologies for the noob nature of the question. Looking to jump into the world of 7 strings and trying to get best bang for my buck. Unfortunately, I hail from Australia so gear prices are kind of expensive down here. I've so far narrowed it down to 2 choices - I've found a second hand Ibanez RG7620 with some cosmetic blemishes for $700 vs buying a Solar A2.7 online (I've only seen pictures and Youtube reviews, but like the way it looks) for approx. $1300 after shipping.

The MIJ Ibanez seems like a better deal, but just wondering what you guys think?

Are there other considerations I should think about?

    TIA

You should give us more infos, for example :
    Fixe or floating bridge ?
    H-H only ?
    25.5" or 26.5" neck ?
What tuning do you wish to play in ?
    Wood preferences ?
    Pickups types ?
Genre of music you are into ?
    Look ?
    etc etc etc.

At least i can advise you to check the Iron Label from Ibanez, Schecter is an excellent choice also. Solar is a good idea but good luck getting one if you're not fast enough.

    Thanks for the reply.

    For more clarity-

Don't mind either fixed or floating bridge.
    HH is preferable.
Probably going to play in BEADGBE - maybe occ. a half-step down.
No real preference in body wood, my current guitars are mahogany but happy to try something else.
Pretty open to pickups / don't mind too much about passive or active (have a d-activator x in one guitar and SD blackouts in another) - but preferably something suited for high gain as I'm into bands such as Trivium and Periphery. That's the sort of music I like to play, but also play into a bit of old school metal as well.
Looks wise, I'm pretty open to anything other than Tele styles.

So in your price range i see the following options:
    - Solar
    - Schecter Hellraiser Hybrid C7
    - Schecter Keith Merrow Signatures
    - PRS SE SVN
    - Jackson HT7
    - Jackson Dinky DKA7M
    - Ibanez RGDIX7MPB-SBB
    - Ibanez RGAIX7FM-TGF (25.5")
    - Ibanez SIX7FDFM (25.5")
    - Ibanez RGDIR7M

Since you wanna play some periphery or trivium, it means changing tuning a lot, so there is no floating bridge in the list and i think it's better to go with a 26.5" scale lenght to go lower.

I would choose the Solar which has the best price/value ratio with good features, but check the others guitars listed, but the Keith Merrow Sigs are very close but a bit more expensive.
You can't really go wrong with one or the other anyway

Does Ormsby have anything in your range? Or that other custom luthier from there... is it ET Guitars?

It's probably cheaper to go with local product, no?

Thanks heaps for the suggestions, the Solar is definitely on the shortlist since preorders for the A2.7 are open right now, and I'll look more into the Schecters.

I didn't know about about ET guitars - can anyone vouch for the quality? Prices seem quite cheap. Unfortunately Ormsby is out of the budget though :tomato:

See if the luthier is near you or a store that sells them, then just grab on to a kangaroo and hop on down to test one out!

The ET guitars seem to have great features anyway with multiscale options and decent price.

As soon as I get rid of the dingos and funnel webs at my front yard I'll go for that kangaroo ride. /s

Seems like ET guitars is about 2 hours from where I live, so I'll probably make the trek inner of these days coming up.

A Solar seems to be the better option for me too, but being from Australia, you must have a Ormsby, they are superb guitars!

    Thanks for the suggestions, guys!

Out of left field, but I just pulled the trigger on an FGN Mythic 7 string that was priced too well for me to resist.

Once again, thanks for the advice :rocker:

How are those compared to ibanez prestige? Do they have any 26.5" or 27"?

I've never played a Prestige, so can't say. Still waiting for the FGN to be delivered. As far as I'm aware, they only come in 25.5".

Didn’t ET Guitars work with the Northlane boys?
