That guy just struck as a complete idiot. Telling women that it's God's command that they marry him and claiming that Malaria doesn't exist. Claiming to be able to heal any disease, but his children dying like that. Claiming to be able to talk to Allah and Muhammad directly. Dude's off his rocker.

This disturbed me much more than than having 86 wives. :ugh: "Less than a quarter of his age." Just think about that. It says younger than his children, but that would be old enough to be his grandchild.

That, paired with the "healing of their ailments" is what got me. Somehow I doubt that marrying this guy got rid of your headache.

What was really sad was the woman who said 'if a man has 86 wives, you know he knows how to take care of them', when most of them apparently live in squalor...:wallbash:

Not to be flippant or anything, but by BBC standards, most Nigerians probably live in squallor. What I'd be curious to know is if he lives any better than they do.

Sorry if this is a sensitive subject for Americans, but does this remind anyone else of Waco, and all that David Koresh stuff?

The (more recent) polygamist compound in Texas came to my mind, but no, you weren't the only one.

This wouldn't be the first time a person claimed spiritual powers in order to take advantage of innocents.

Waco's not that sensitive - it's made fun of fairly often, and the most recent similar scare was when a huge polygamist cult was raided earlier this year.

Married to 86 women pretty much says that too.

I'd be willing to bet that some of the wives and children are doing some of those world famous Nigerian E-Mail scams to support the compound. Something is rotten here, and it's good that Nigeria is finally doing something about it. I wonder what will happen to the 82 scorned wives, or if he is going to take the death sentence.

No, something is rotten *there*. In that post. How about letting him be tried for actual crimes, if accusations for those can come up?
