So I went ahead and got myself a christmas gift. This thing popped up on Facebook and I jumped on it. It's a 1956 Gibson Les Paul Junior. It's been played like it should have and sounds ridiculous. Brought it to a casino gig a couple days after I got it and it sounded beastly and was taking heads clean off. It cuts through perfectly, has a bit of twang, but still has a body and fullness to the sound. I'm very happy I picked this up. I plan on playing it a lot and putting it through its paces regularly. Nothing quite like an old guitar that's been around this long and is this solid :mf666:

I half expected the serial number to be in the single digits lol.

Hopefully it came with a set of tweezers?

J/K... 10/10... what a score! Definitely need a YT demo!

Damn, I love natural wear. We have a couple of newer lp jr's and they're pretty spiffy. I can only imagine this one is much nicer. Nice score!

The strings have aged so well.

Any way I could convince you to photograph the inside of the control cavity and/or get ohmage and voltage readings on the pickup?

Ha! I was actually suprised as well at the serial number. The first number "6" is the year, so 1956. The next numbers are the production number. Not specifically the number of Les Paul Jr's but just of guitars in general they built. Over 13,000 guitars in 1956 to me was a shock. Gibson was pumping them out 62 years ago! I'll work on a YT vid if I have any time.

I can probably post a photo of the cavity here once I restring it and set it up. Not sure if I'll get the Ohm and Volt readings though.

One of the hottest guitar models ever. Period. And the older they are, the better they get.

Those old p90s are pretty special aren't they? I can just imagine the pissed off snarl and greasiness that comes out of that pup and old wood.

I've lusted over those old juniors forever and those photos make me more than a little green.

Superb instrument! Congrats man, enjoy it in good health and play the hell out of that beast!

I'd say a C shape. Nice and fat like you'd expect but not uncomfortable to me. A buddy of mine was saying it would take some getting used to since its huge but I had no problem with it. I've had Les Paul Customs and Les Paul Studios and it's a little bit narrower but the thickness is about the same as any normal "fat" Gibson neck I'd say.
