    Hey guys,

Owned this one for about a week or so now, thought I'd share some photos with you all. This is actually my 2nd Mercer Blackmachine B7 clone (had to sell the first one to raise some quick cash). Glad I got to pick this one up as I regretted the sale of the first one, unfortunately money is king sometimes.

Build quality is definitely consistent. With some improvements on the tightness of the neck pocket and pickup cavities. To be critical placement of the pickups could be more horizontally central in their cavities. Opened up the control cavity and wiring is a little messy. There is also no jam washer between the input socket and nut, this causes the jack socket to become a little loose after time. This is a quick fix and I'll get round to putting one in, but this is just me being critical.

    Specs are as follows:-

    Chambered Mahogany body
    Redwood Lace Burl Top
5pc Rosewood / Ebony bolt on neck
    Rosewood fretboard
    24 XL frets
    20" radius fretboard
    Ivoroid binding
    Hipshot bridge
    Hipshot Griplock open gear tuners
    SD Nazgul / Sentient pups
    1-volume
    1- 3-way switch
    Dunlop flush mount straplocks

That looks great! One thing i've alwasy wondered though: how does the neck feel fully flat towards the heel? I've always imagined that would feel weird and possibly uncomfortable..

Damn how much did this set you back? I've got one his 7s but it's fairly stripped back.

That is one hell of a top! The whole guitar turned out great. How are those pickups treating you?

It's was pretty reasonable for something semi custom, I'll PM you for more deets.

I've had a set of the Nazgul and Sentient combo before and I still love them as the first day I heard them. Note definition is so clear no matter how much gain you are using. The Sentient is more stripped back PAF type pup, good for creamy leads.

Cheers man, the top is stunning and looks even better in person, photos don't do it justice. First time I've tried the Hipshot Griplock tuners and I'm really impressed, they hold tuning really well and aesthetics of seeing the gear inside is a nice touch too, I'd definitely use them again.

Sorry bro! The neck is really comfy all over to be honest, I personally like a thin U shape neck and this feels like that as well as a modern wizard shape. It is really flat all the way up to the heel, it hasn't caused me any discomfort while playing on the higher frets, I'll let you know after some more time settling in with her.

Hmm. I wanna try one of these sometime. Cause I end up with my thumb on the "shoulder" so i lean more towards a C shape and in this case the shoulders would be really really pronounced. Maybe I won't even realize and modify how I play to suit, and that's why I want to give it a go.

If you get the chance it is definitely worth it! It might take a little while to adapt but hopefully you'll blend when you get a chance.

This is the first time I've had a custom build from Steve, he stated a build time of 6-8 weeks from the offset. His communication while ironing out the first details of the build was good, and had a few back and forth emails during first month or so giving updates of parts coming in and how the build was progressing. Towards the end of the build he did go very quiet on the email front, and the stated build time had now over run; so understandably I was pretty hot on emailing to try and get an update, the longest I went without a response was 2-3 weeks. I'm not going to lie, this was very frustrating not knowing whether the build was complete.

Eventually I got a reply saying the build was complete and apologising for the lack of communication. When I went to collect he apologised again for the delay and lack of communication, he was very honest and said that when he gets behind on builds he shuts down on comms. I said that he should look at getting some help, just on the front end communication, giving him more time to focus on guitar building.

I hope he can find someone willing to help him out as well as maybe giving himself more leverage on build time! I'd definitely consider getting another of his builds.

Looks really nice mate! Sorry I had to take the last one off your hands :)

I have a build in progress with him at the moment, Communication goes quiet occasionally but he will always get back to me and as you mentioned, the has always been good reason behind the slow communication.

Maybe grab a beer when I pick up my new one as it's so close! haha

Enjoy it! Love that Burly top!
