I picked this RGA121 up yesterday after hunting for it in this colour for about two years. The V7/V8 pickups weren't very good so I swapped them out with a set of BKP Ragnaroks. The pickups made a huge difference to the sound and now I'm very happy with the guitar. The ragnaroks definitely made it a lot clearer and tighter.

It's setup in Drop C with 11-52 strings on it. Everything about this guitar is awesome and I got it in almost mint condition with just some wear of the cosmo finish on the bridge. Thinking of swapping the tuners out with pearloid locking ones down the track.

I've also included a group photo of some of my nicer guitars.

love that color as well man, a great addition to the fam!

I lost all faith in ibanez when they decided to only build new RGA's in the cheaper models. It's hands down the best body design they have in my opinion.

I was 1 mouse click away from ordering a new RGA J.Custom from japan through an individual who was going to take care of all the export stuff for me. but once you started to compare the bottom line to other builds it made no sense for me to spend that kind of money on a guitar that would be much cheaper here. So I ended up with a mayones which i've been super happy with, but i'd be lying if I said I didnt still have some serious GAS for a nice RGA.

Congrats! These RGA121's are super cool guitars. I have the RGA121H-CDO version (same thing but blue) that I tune to Drop A# with 12-56 Ernie Ball's (with 20p instead of 24p) and I really enjoy it!

I also swapped pickups, but I grabbed a Duncan Pegasus/Sentient set, sound so good in this guitar, especially the Pegasus.

Always a good score man; picked up the maple topped version last year, stellar guitars.

It's not a skervesen actually... It's an ET Guitars - Warmachine. He's an aussie luthier called Ernie Taylor. It's an amazing guitar

I definitely thought it was a Skervesen too!

HNGD! These are some of the best metal guitars out there. I have one that needs a setup badly...the action is too high and the low E always slides off the fretboard.

Congrats! The 121H CDR was my first pro-level, Prestige guitar after wanting one for a decade. Eventually even bought a second 121! You should totally do the pearloid tuner knobs! I got some for mine as well as white Dimarzios, white switch tip, and white strap, and it looks damn good on that sparkly red.

Congrats, HNGD. I'm pretty curious about these pickups. Can you say anymore on them? How do you find the rag neck pup?

I'm not great at all the sales -talk that goes with pickups... I actually went in to buy dimarzio d-activators however the only metal pickups the shop had were ragnaroks (with the additional price). They're very punchy.. I have juggs in two other guitars and they're definitely a lot higher output and more 'metal'. I would liken them as being closer to the blackhawks with a more useable clean and not as much high end

Nice! BTW, the Gotoh SG381 MG-T are direct replacements for the stock machine heads. Pretty sure you can get them with pearloid keys. Slowly upgrading my various Prestiges to them. First one done, my RG121 :)

Really curious about the Ragnaroks. Getting some BKPs for my PRS SE soon and It's coming down between the Holy Divers, which I know I love, from experience, as they're huge sounding, tight enough for my liking, and have a nice round top end. Or these, which the demos on the BKP site sound good, a lot of the demos on YouTube sound pretty good, but I just don't know, with my increased use of clean playing and the different genres I play through these days, if the cleans on the Ragnaroks will be quite good enough compared to the Holy Divers.

I too, would love ragnarok feedback. Every clip on youtube sounds the same through the same axe fx 2.

HNGD!! I had a 121 before but it was the CDO finish. I've always been interested in obtaining one of these though, because the finish really is that stunning. Glad to hear that you swapped out the older pickups, too, because they do leave little to be desired. Best of luck with it in the future!!!

HNGD! I had a RGA121 in a different color a few years back but traded it. Still kicking myself for that :noplease:
