I recently scored this rare Ibanez RG7621M-BOL on eBay. It played great and had a nice fundamental tone thanks to the oiled mahogany body, but needed some major TLC. The finish was worn in some spots, the back of the neck was gross, and the stock pickups were atrocious. Fast forward a couple weeks and I had my buddy (and Axe Palace tech) Victor sand the neck, install a set of Sperzel locking tuners, a black satin custom pick guard, a new set of white DiMarzio Blaze pickups and matching hardware, and set it up real nice for A standard tuning. I really love this guitar now! My Ibanez Apex100 is definitely higher quality with a more classy feel, but this one is really nice in its own right. It has a very deep, resonant sound thats very lively with the new pickups in. The Blaze is a nice compliment to the voicing of this guitar. I like it much better than in any basswood Ibanez I've ever played. It's a bit dark but it sounds excellent with my rigs. The Blaze neck pickup sounds really sweet and juicy in this guitar also. I prefer it to the Liquifire 7 (the LF6 however is incredible, damn you DiMarzio never using alnico V magnets in your 7-string models). Hopefully this will be the last Ibanez I buy in a while. I have WAY too many guitars at the moment and need to thin the herd a bit (mostly Ibanez and PRS). It's a sickness. I have a store full of high-end shit that technically mops the floor with guitars like this, but I'm still a sucker for these anyway. They always require a lot of mods and setup fixes (shims, nut radiusing, etc) to get them right, but damn they're fun. My favorites are still my Apex100 and RG1077XL but this one will see some live use for sure here and there.
