This is my first 8 string and first Ibanez. Lots of people say these are the best bang for your buck if you want to get into 8 strings and this came up on Reverb for a great price. There are a couple small dings but you really have to look for them so I'm not complaining. This is also my first time trying out Blackouts and they're actually not too bad. I like them more than I think I would have liked the 808s (I didn't like the 707s in an original Loomis I had) but I've got a set of Fishman Tosins on the way as well as the battery pack, 5 way switch and locking tuners. I really hope I can fit the battery pack in there.

I understand now why everyone likes the Prestige line. The fretwork on it is great. I can tell I'm used to the extra jumbo frets on my ESPs and the Schecters I've had in the past because these feel small even though they aren't.

I was really surprised by how wide the neck was but the thin and flat profile is pretty comfortable and I'm basically used to the 27" scale from playing 26.5" 7 strings.

Happy NGD it's an awesome 8 string.
Maybe locking tuners are a bit of an overkill since tuning stability is not an issue in this guitar.
Anyway i'm interested to these Fluence, so keep the thread updated ! :):)

Best bang for the buck? How much did you buy it for? :)

Yeah, it's definitely overkill. It just makes changing strings faster.

There were a couple on Reverb and 1 on Ebay while I was looking at this. I was seriously considering buying one but the deal on this was too good to pass up plus I like Fishmans.

Edit: The one is still on ebay and there are now 3 on Reverb including a white one.

Last of the parts came in last week and I've finally got some time to put them all in. Wish me luck.

Well, I apparently screwed something up. Got everything wired the way it showed aside from the output jack because I'm using a barrel jack and got no output. I'm having a local guy take a look at it for me this week.

If I had an interface I would but I'm just a screw around in my basement kind of guitarist.

Oh shit, congrats! I've had mine for 8 or so years now. It's only gotten better with age.

Let us know how the Fishmans go! I replaced the 808s with 808Xs a while ago, but am thinking of going the Fishman route soon.

Just heard back from the tech who was looking it over for me. I never would have figured this issue out myself. I didn't actually screw anything up. He said he kept going over all the connections tracing them where they were supposed to go and couldn't find anything wrong with it, tried switching out the output jack and still nothing. Then he started to take the electronics out and happened to still have it hooked up. One of the screws from the 5-way switch was bridging 2 contacts on the switch and shorting it out.

If you're looking at moderns I wholeheartedly recommend them. I have them in my Eclipse and in an Alexi I used to have and they are great. I'm sure I'll like the Tosins too, I wanted something that had a dedicated clean voice.

Finally had some time to sit down with this. The Tosin Fluences are amazing. The frequency range on them is so much better than the Blackouts. I felt like the Blackouts would get overwhelmed with the F and with these every note is super clear. I also feel like the two humbucker voices are more distinct than on Moderns (I still love Moderns). Running split inner coils with a bit of drive on it really gives you that snappy AAL sound and full cleans are acoustic-like in both positions for voice 3 (I have position 4 neck outer coil and position 2 both inner coils). I highly recommend these.

For me the default is active voice. Pull up on the volume knob and it's the passive voice.
