So I got this guitar in a trade and I'm pleasantly surprised! I own a few other Kiesel/Carvin guitars but nothing like this. Black Limba body, white limba neck, ebony fretboard. I will be installing Fishman Fluence Modern 7's in it!

I am kind of surprised the pickup cavities aren't shielded.

To be fair, the previous owner could have removed anything that was in there.

I have heard the cavities don't need to be shielded with active pickups, /shrug. Regardless, thats a sweet guitar!

Nice, I've got a couple black limba guitars myself. I love the look of that wood.

I now some people do it just because "more shielding must be better", but the only guitar I've owned with shielded pickup cavities was my crappy strat copy, and it's because I did it myself. Most Strat pickguards only have shielding over the control cavity area, not the pickup area. A quick google search seems as though Skeversen and Strandberg don't either.

I've even read from folks who say shielding the pickup cavities has something to do with effecting "capacitance" and it can reduce clarity in the tone. Note: I know nothing about any of that technical stuff, but i remember that word being used. That's the extent of knowledge on the subject: I remember a word that I don't really understand. Ha!
