Wanted a 7-string Stratty thing with a more traditional trem instead of my typical Floyds.

My fav Gotoh HAPM tuners. Hipshot Contour 7 bridge. Duncan SSL-1 7-string pickups.

Brian Howard is a top-shelf luthier in Delaware who
has done tons of fretwork, repairs, and modifications for me over the years. This is the first custom build I’ve asked him for, and it’s outstanding.

    That's great! Congrats!

I really dig the more Tele style headstock, the proportions are just right.

Thanks man! He wanted to use that headstock, so who was I to argue?

Definitely a good call on both your parts. :agreed:

Any chance we can get some outside and/or back shots? I would love to see that grain in the sun.

Yeah, it’s raining here so I took the pics inside. I just swapped the black Duncan covers for white and couldn’t wait to post about it, but I’ll try for some more pics if the weather cooperates.

Definitely looks more "right" with the white covers. Is that a parchment guard or just off-white?

I can’t recall... I suspect it was parchment but I don’t remember. For Brian, I tend to buy most of the parts (except the wood, frets, nut material, etc.) and send it to him for the build. And I don’t remember what pickguard blank I sent him.

That guitar is really cool and I’ve always wondered about a full on Strat but a 7 string.

But the question all of us and Ola want to know is does it Djjjj...Djjjj...does it DJjDJjj...

We have such similar tastes in what we're looking for in a 7 it's ridiculous. Love all your builds. We so need more traditional 7 string choices.

I like it. Are you using vintage style tuners or do they lock on the top? And a veneer on the headstock? Love it.

Those are Gotoh HAPM tuners, which as far as I know are the only vintage-looking tuners that lock. They also are height adjustable, so they can be staggered and eliminate string trees.

Yup. There’s a veneer over the top of the headstock to cover that center piece running through the neck. I forget what species Brian said that was, but I assume it’s just to add a bit of stability/stiffness over an all-maple neck.
