The band's been talking about doing 7 string stuff for a while, so I finally got around to trading for one.

Apex II with Blackouts. The neck's been reshaped a bit and I love it.

Family shot. The Xtone is my gigging guitar I'm using for the band right now.

Okay, pickups. I'm not as familiar with mahogany, more ash, so I'm not sure what to do. If I could afford BKPs, I'd get Painkillers for sure, but I probably can't swing that, so it's gonna be DiMarzios.

I know D Activators will work in mahogany, but I'm dying to try a CL/LF combo. Some people say they're fine, others say they're way too warm for mahogany. Any opinions?

I hear D Activators are pretty close to BKP sound. I have a painkiller in my Apex 2 and I love it. I'd go with the D Activator.

I'd have to second the d-activators. Also how was the neck reshaped exactly?

Thanks guys :yesway: Gonna do a band practice with them to be sure and probably post them in the classifieds soon.

He took the shoulders down mostly. From what I remember, it reminds me a lot of the 2228 neck carve. Kinda like a regular Prestige carve, but a hair thicker, and with a bit less shoulder than that.

He shaved the treble side down a bit more than the bass side, too, and I fucking love that. I wish more companies did that, it feels like it was made for my hand. That's the one thing I really loved about the Agile 8s, the asymmetrical neck carve.

It's up there  I think my favourite neck carve I've felt on a 7 so far (I haven't played too many though, and have only owned one).

Trying to flesh out string gauges right now, we're gonna try and do drop B with a low G#, currently have 12-56s and whatever coated string the guy had on it for the G#. Thinking maybe a 64.

The nut seems to be a little low, I get a bit of buzzing on the A and D strings open and on the first fret. Should I shim it with cardstock or something like that?

I have a 72 for my Ab (G#) and it's just about perfect. 64 would be too loose I reckon :ugh:

Thanks, I'll probably try like a 68 to be safe. I threw a 60 on there now out of desperation, because it was lying around, and it's way too loose haha. I'm not using to tuning this low on something other than a 28.6" scale, I'm pretty lost

On a side note, tried it at band practice today and it sounded huge. Really digging the Blackouts, I can't believe how good the cleans are too. Way better than I was expecting.

    Thanks :yesway:

Yeah  the Strat doesn't get too much serious use, I saw the body (a 1960 MIA) for a good price on ebay and bought it, and got a Warmoth neck for it. It's nice to have around though, something I'm probably never gonna get sick of, and can always find a use for. Plays great, too.

Got the Xtone because I was in a big hardcore kick and always wanted to learn some jazz, figured I'd kill two birds with one stone haha and it ended up becoming my main guitar, it feels like it was made for me and I love how it looks.

Got offered the Apex, always loved RG 7s but sick of dealing with trems I don't use haha, and recessed TOMs are the reason I get out of bed every morning. Not crazy about the green, but I don't mind it, and before this every guitar I owned was black, so it's a nice change

If you ever want to unload that guitar hit me up i'll gladly take it off your hands. As far as the pickup change goes, if you were to get d activators id go ahead and do it. Id change the neck out for something thats a little less on the treble side. Good guitar you got yourself there.
