I built another guitar. This time it's a heavily Blackmachine-inspired build, however with certain tweaks to my liking.

    _DSC5658.jpg

The original jack is not ideally placed for my playing position, the bevel arm rest is useless (you start with one edge and basically create 2 new ones - hooray!), the lack of a belly cut is also an issue for me.

I tried to overcome all shortcomings (imho) with this build. Let's go to the specs, shall we?

    Body: 2pcs Swamp Ash 30mm
    Top: 5pcs Ebony 5mm
Neck: Laminated, 5pcs, Swietenia Mahagony and Wengé
    Fretboard: Ebony 5.5mm
    Headstock: Ebony 2mm
    Bridge: Schaller Hannes
Tuner: Schaller M6 Mini Locking with Ebony buttons
Pots: CTS Push Pull (2 Volume, Coil Split, Phase Reverse)
    Switch: 3way DPDT
    Pickups: BKP Holy Divers
    Frets: 24 Stainless steel, 1.4x1.2mm
    Nut: Graphtec Tusq 42mm
    Strap buttons: Dunlop StrapLok Flush
    Binding: Ivoroid 6mm
Tuning: 10-52s tuned to D standard
    Weight: 2.99kg

I love the sound of the Holy Divers and am overall really happy with the guitar. It has a very hot rod style sound with a badass crunchy growl in there, love it. I would have never thought I'd settle for a classic superstrat shaped guitar, but here I go.

that jack placement is amazing and I wish all manufacturers would do that.

Straight or L, it just makes sense!

Awesome! Completely agree about the arm bevel; it looks cool, yes, but it's to me a good case of form over function. It does however fit within the guitar's sleek and edgy overall looks, if people are willing to sacrifice comfort for looks (note: this of course doesn't impact everyone, so it's completely subjective).

This guitar looks amazing, great build and it's a pleasure to look at it!

Thx! I went for a more classic style round bevel on this one and just filed away top an binding. I left about 1.5mm of binding an top to preserve the look. The arm rest can be seen here in the reflection.

That’s a badass guitar in both looks and specs. Well done.

    Edit: What’s the fretboard radius?

    That’s awesome!

For the jack, did you consider going diagonal?

    Wow. That looks awesome!

I know that there are a lot of luthiers and guitar makers around these parts, but the fact that you just went ahead and made that like a boss is absolutely amazing.

    It's a 16'' radius.

You mean to end up in the pots cavity? Yes, I thought about this. The reason I did not do it this way was the size of the cavity. There's not enough room there and I wanted to keep this aspect closer to its role model.

    All: Thanks!

That's fantastic! IDK if I'd want that sort of jack placement since I use a G10 wireless and they're kind of bulky, but overall that thing is very nice. Great job!

This looks great! Just had a quick question about the 5-piece ebony top. I know large slabs of ebony (especially of uniformly black gaboon ebony) are hard to come by; do you know if the original Blackmachine tops are all multi-piece as well?

I honestly don't know. But given the fact that they're very thin (2mm), I doubt they are more than 2pcs tops.

Thanks. This one came out very nice. I don't sell my builds, especially not my replicas/tributes, sorry.

Amazing work! Hope mine turns out half as good as that!
To simplify, did you just use 5 fretboard blanks essentially?

    16inch radius is true radius.
