Hey guys, new to the site. Was wondering if I could get some tips on string gauges. I was wondering what string gauge to get for my Low B string. Basically I play the first 6 strings at guages .13-.56 and my 7th string is dropped down to an E. I can't remember what string gauge its at right now, but basically its to loose. Was wondering if anyone could help me out with some tips. Thanks :)

    Welcome to the site!

First: when asking something about strings, it should be posted in the Beginner/FAQ section :)

Second: I don't really get what you mean by low E dropped. What is your tuning? Also good to mention: your scale length.

Drop E like E0? You're gonna need a big one...

    EDIT: E1... wow...

25.5 or 27" because you will need really big string for that

Thanks, Ill make sure to post in the appropriate area from now on. My tuning is EAEADGbB. Basically on my 6th string I Played in dropped A and I wanted to use the 7th string in a Tuning that would work with dropped A the 6th string being the dropped A. So been playing witht he Low B dropped to an E worked out great so far. But I need to change strings, because me and my band are currently doing recordings, and that Low B string right now is way to loose, to record a clear sound. So I need to restring my whole guitar, but wanted to get the right gauge for that Low B string if tuned down to E. Thanks again for the help :)

    So... E1?

Either way, you'll need to look at your scale length as others have said to get the best answer.

    I'm currently using a .75 for my 8th string, dropped to E1, on a 27" RG8. Just a standard DR Strings Tite-Fit 8-string set.

Thanks, yea its an E1. To be honest I'm not sure how I determine the string scale. Also do you guys know of any site where I can buy strings at those type of gauges. Ive been looking around and the lowest I can find is .68

If you tell us the guitar brand/model, we can find the info.

SSO sponsor guitarstringsonline.com can get you any brand and gauge (I like him :p). People also like circlekstrings.com

Anything in between .75 and .90 it sounds like. Its going to be beefy, but it'll be tight. Try buying an 8 string set and just removing the high E.
