    Concept for a band:

Metal, but with me playing guitar and bass, and a parrot as the lead "vocalist." Programmed drums. Microtonal (19-EDO). Riff-based with doomy parts.

I know the parrot metal thing has been done before, so I'd risk being compared to Hatebeak, but it'd at least be more interesting than my terrible vocals. Plus, if I record at home, then the damn parrot squaking will bleed into my sessions half the time, even though I'm on a different floor than her and have all of the doors closed, might as well let her do whatever (it probably won't make a heck of a lot of sense, but I experimented with this once or twice and it actually sounded a lot better than I expected).

It'd be gimmicky as f*&#, but if nobody wants to do vocals with me playing guitar in a band (although I seem to have less trouble than most finding drummers, bass players, other guitar players, albeit not in 19-EDO), then why not? Or would this be too annoying? Or does no one care?

Voted mostly for the bird noise joke. Definitely risking being compared to Hatebeak. Next thing you need is a name.

As you mentioned, there is already Hatebeak. I really think they can and do probably satisfy the whole market for parrot-lead death metal music.

I think it's a gimmick that would ultimately detract from your music, because I know the only thing I can pay attention to in Hatebeak is the bird vocals. I'd sooner have horror movie sound clip vocals like Belzebong.

Just use well selected lines of dialoge from Star Trek TNG as vocals. Or do parrot whatever. Good luck though. I voted yes

Why not or to be precise: why bother asking anonymous guys on the Internet for approval?

    You name it.

I don't like female vocals in metal.

Really though, I'd check it out if I heard good things about it plus you should definitely do it if it makes you happy.

That this turned out to be a real thing and not something you'd just made up for a joke has made me unreasonably cross.

I'm trying to gauge interest, because if no one cares, then there's no point in doing it, and I can try to come up with something else.

    So, I guess that's a "no?"

Run your parrot through autotune/melodyne set to 19EDO and utilize it to write microtonal counterpoint vocal lines and you are guaranteed commercial success on a global scale, to be honest.

Only one person needs to care. That person is you.

But seriously, nobody has to care, if you feel like doing it, do it.

I have no idea how to use autotune, TBH. Does it work in weird tunings?!

I'll see if I can record a jam session, maybe this weekend. If it goes super well, maybe we can play at The Dog Chapel next summer.

I'm always up for more microtonal metal, but no programmed drums, PLEASE NO!

Well, unless I run into enough cash to either a) get electronic drums, b) get a studio space where I can be loud, or c) hire a drummer to record stems at his place, then I think the programmed drums are just going to have to be my only wife-friendly option. My last couple of sessions were too loud. :(

Well... trust me I understand the struggle! But I'm just so sick and tired of hearing bad programmed drums. It's possible to make it sound good, believable, and even unnoticeably fake, but it takes someone with a good grasp of the software and mixing in general. If the drums are not convincing, I probably won't give your project the same credibility, personally.

If YOU are interested in it, go for it. You know as well as any of us that there isn't much commercial reason to do music these days and touring with a parrot could prove difficult.

Having said that, your vocals aren't terrible. In fact, they're better than many I've heard. Forget about that one review - don't let it affect your creativity.

Make the parrot sound like a shrieking cosmic void demon then you'd have something

Give it a sick ass stage name like Lord Annihil and give it corpse paint
