My THR10x sounds kind of weak in Drop C -- any pedals to improve the rhythm tone?

Hey guys, just want to ask for some help.

I've been very happy with my Yamaha THR10X modeling amp -- it's a great practice tool and great for spontaneous practice sessions.

However, I tried out my Ibanez RGA321 loaded with DiMarzio D-Activators and while lead tones were pretty good, I just cannot dial in a tone for good, brutal riffing.

I'm thinking of getting a pedal for it and I could use some suggestions.

Maxon OD808 :metal: the king of all "green" overdrives IMO

This or even a TS mini would work. I've used both with that amp.

    :agreed:

The OD808 really opens up small practice amps.

od808x is probably the most aggressively voiced/ best ts for metal imo.

Thanks for the input guys; I'm thinking of giving the Maxon OD808X a try. Any tips on what settings to use for the metal rhythm?

I also recorded a crappy Youtube demo just to give y'all an idea of what I'm describing. There's no balls at all to the chugs.

if you're going to use the od808x I find that it has a great amount of gain on hand. Personally I max the vol (or damn near) , set tone at around 1'0 clock, and gain at 7'0 clock. The more gain you add the boxier the sound gets ime. It's not a smooth clipping TS like the ts808, but it feels quite aggressive.
Here's a demo I did where I use the od808x (that part starts at around 8 minutes).

    here's a clip with the od808x too:

@KnightBrolaire - Nice playing dude -- the Maxon sounds pretty dang brutal. Can it go full djent mode with the Drop A or B tunings?

Also considering the Horizon Precision Drive, but it costs about as much as the actual practice amp

thanks. The od808x or precision drive can do djenty stuff. I have both and have a/b'd them and the precision drive is a better option for djent due to the tightness knob. The od808x is very tight as well but the precision drive will give you the instant clank/metallic sound for djent. The od808x doesn't color the sound as much imo, but the precision drive is a more useful overdrive throughout its gain range.

KnightBrolaire's tone was decent, but expecting something brutal coming out from 3.15 inch speakers is unrealistic. In my opinion that thing sounds better in a mix, when recording is done direct.

Any thoughts on the Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive Mod? I just saw one for sale at a local pawn shop here.

I have actually, back when I still had my Boss Katana head -- it sounded great as well, but was also quite expensive and just a tad too complicated.
