So this one came from nowhere, I've been looking at upgrading my amp rig - but my heart has been saying get a new guitar. Nearly ordered an Aristides, then nearly went the fan fret route (and still might do both of these things at somepoint).

But saw this deal, and couldn't say no.

So I present my Mayones John Browne Qatsi Baritone 7 Anja Burst.
Schaller Bridge (been wanting one of these for ages)
BKN Nailbomb and cold sweat (prefer these to the aftermaths in my Regius)
T.E.W ash body (prefer this to the mahogany on the duvells)
5 piece wenge bubinga neck (prefer this to the purple heart in newer mayo's due to cites).

It's going to take abit of getting used to the baritone scale, and finding the right gauge for me (I believe its got 10-56 atm, but the 10s are a tad tight for leads and I'm very surprised how much bigger the bottom strings seem for the gauge - so much so I doubt its a 56). I play in Drop A currently in my band, any recommendations of string gauges?

Now onto the good stuff - pictures aren't the best but I just caught some light by the time I got in from work:

    Looks awesome!

Compared to my 25.5” scale guitars, my 27”ers use the next lower string gauge. For me, I use .010s on 25.5” and .009s for 27” and it feels about normal.

Where did you buy from in London was it Guitar Guitar? I've tried a few mayones there and they had horribly thick strings on them, way more than a 56 it ruined the guitar for me. I use Ernie ball 10-56 in Drop A on my Baritone 7 (one in the display pic) But recently moved to a 60 on the bottom.

I play 10-59 on A Standard on a 25.5" scale and the tension is perfect. You could run 9-56 on a 27" scale no problem for drop A.

It was originally bought from Guitar Guitar, but I believe their Scotland store. My Regius was from GG too and had 10-60 which was perfect for 25.4"

Mayones have the Qatsi listed on the site with 10-60's also. Unless the scale is doing something mad to the strings, it definately looks to have way more than a 56 on the bottom currently.

I've just bought tonnes of different strings and will see whats best.

I'm 90% sure GuitarGuitar puts .74s on their Quatsis, I tried several last summer and they all had fuckin huge bass strings on them

^ they are shipped with 10-60's seems strange they'd change it by that much. I'll find out in time whats the best guage for me : )

    Probably a hybrid of 9's for the E, B and G, then heavy 10's for D, A G and a 60 something for the low A

Dunlop makes a 9-62 Super Bright set, you could try buying packs of them so you don't have to go with separate 7th strings.

I really like the lighter binding with the deeper coloration of the back, on that purple beast. Super nice.

    Thanks guys!

Swapped the lighter strings out for 10's (they certainly weren't 10s on there as advertised) so leads feel good again.

However swapped the D A E strings to 10s as well and got mad fret buzz even after saddle adjustments. So have put the old super heavy strings back on for now until I figure out what gauge they were.

    I think you right and I've got a 74.

GHS do a 13-74 set, so think it might be those. If this is the case I'm surprised he said it had 10-56's on though

I think these retail at around 3k, you may be able to find the older models like this for less new. But I got a good deal on this 2nd hand
