    Hi,

Any recommendations for bands/solo artists using bass as lead? I already know of artists e.g. Caynug, Niverlare, Extinction Level Event, that use distorted bass,
but are there any others that have this type of sound, or maybe use extra-long scale (34"+) guitars? (Winspear I'm looking at you :))

Not what you're looking for, but one of the earliest innovations in popular music I heard two basses was Ned'a Atomic Dustbin.

Barathrum used to have a "drum and bass" only approach.

dying fetus. One of my favorite Death Metal bands next to Necrophagist. It's just a trio (bass, guitar and drums). Saw them live years ago and the bass player is insanely good.

Beyond Creation has a good pile of leads from the bass player.

Ok neither of these bands focuses on bass as exclusively lead, but they do have a ton of bass solos :/

Nine Inch Nails' With Teeth has quite a few songs with distorted bass taking the lead on the verses.

Other than that... It's not Metal, but Gorillaz always lays down some good bass tracks.

    Cool stuff in this thread!
I haven't actually done anything that weird myself despite having great interest in the subject. I've used a 30" bass vi as a guitar in B0 like a 9 string. I've played 37 and 36" basses in E0, but just like a regular bassist.

I know Durero here has a 34-36 7 string guitar that's actually tuned to standard 7 string guitar B with very thin strings. Haven't heard it but he says it's super clear (of course!). Would be interesting to hear it tuned an octave lower!

Was trying to remember this band all day, Necromantia I think had drums, bass and another bass.

It's black metal none the less so it's not exactly emphasizing the low frequencies.

One of the best uses of bass as the lead guitar I've heard so far. These guys are killer. The whole album is excellent.

To be fair though, this treads somewhere between hard rock and metal bands like Katatonia and post metal bands.
