I'd love to see a location filter for the market section of the site, e.g. I'm in the UK an scrolling/navigating through pages to find items that are for sale/trade in the UK or Europe is a pain in the a$$. If it would be possible to add a dropdown menu that shows either a list of countries or regions to filter posts by.

    I also like this idea.

I see some usefulness to this idea, but from a technical perspective I doubt it's possible (and when I say not possible, I mean not convenient to the degree to which Alex could integrate it easily). As you can probably tell, the location I have set isn't actually a real place, so if someone were to do location filtering, I wouldn't be returned by any set of results. As such, any solution to make this work would require changes to the structure of the database, not just an extra PHP script. Either they would have to force everyone to choose their location from a pre-set list in their profile, or all threads created in the Marketplace section would require the OP to choose their location and/or locations to which they would be able to ship.

Yeah I know where you're coming from, I'm a web developer an whilst it would be a bit of a pain to initially set up it could benefit the site greatly. My original idea was for the OP to either:

Choose where they would be happy to ship to
Choose the country/region that they are selling in, so I could filter by UK/EU or someone could filter by US (lower 48 usually) or Canada etc.

Just a feature I thought could be useful for those looking to buy, sell an trade on here. I know Alex doesn't have a lot of time so perfectly understandable if it's low priority, or not an option at all.

Technically when you create a FS/FT thread, you're supposed to list your actual location as part of the item description. If there were to be a location filter added to the classified thread search, it should pull the info directly from the threads, not the posting users profile. A little late to the party I know, but just wanted to add that.

That's what I was thinking, if it was made mandatory then I don't think it would be too difficult.

To make it truly mandatory though, there would have to be some type of actual required form a user would have to fill out with drop downs, required fields, etc. that would pop up whenever a user chose to create a new thread in the classified section. I would love to see that, but I highly doubt any one is going to put in the time or effort to implement something like that here.

And I'm not sure how easy that would be to integrate into the way the forum is set up, because there isn't any other function that does something like it when making threads. Just user groups.

If everyone just added a location in the thread title it would be a GREAT start.

Was going to suggest this as well.
This requires no integration or work by mods.
It's as simple as following the FS format rules

When I see (rarely) Can or Canada in the FS/FT Thread title I click that one first.
