Will this work? I have a string through body and I want to make a bridge plate out of wood and use my saddles in it. ima put a metal plate in the bottom for the set screws.

    I couldn't see why this wouldn't work.

That would actually be VERY neat. It could possibly change the tone a little, too. I love the idea.

I remember Rusti telling me about this in one of my build threads, and I'll be trying it as soon as I get the saddles I ordered.

like the others said, it'll work. Just be sure to make the part where the screws go through thick enough so it's strong enough. You might want to use screws that are a little bit longer than original.

    I like the idea :)

Oh, and when you're at it, you can add a screw from the side, that presses the saddles against each other -> no rattle

alright! thanks guys its time to design something up based off my metal base plate. gotta call my dads buddy up and beg for a chunk of his curly maple :hbang: get that rg7321 baseplate replaced!

also did you mean the screws that go into the body or the screws that go through the back to the saddles. i wonder how thick the base needs to be hmmmmmmm

I have always loved the wooden bridges. Just reenforce where the hight screws would sit and I cant see a problem.

Failing that some washers would help prevent having to match screws and give the same effect (greater area for bearing).

The main reason I think people stray from this is the possible stability of the wood over years....high tension stress on a small piece of wood for a good period of time could lead to warping/cracking/splitting.
