Looking to spend about 600. I don't need anything top quality but nothing cheap either. Really don't want emgs in it. Aiming to get a tone similar to bands like Acid Bath. I was thinking maybe an epiphone less Paul standard but I'd really like to keep a strat like body. Any recommendations?

PRS Mike Mushok, can be had really cheap if you don't mind going used, and probably still leave you room in your budget for a pickup swap if need be.

About any mahogany bodied MIK guitar

Really don't want emgs in it

But literally all NOLA bands use EMGs,

Sammy Duet used a Flying V and Ibanez V with what I'm guessing are stock pickups in Acid Bath but his ESP that he plays in Goatwhore has EMGs

Echoing above...I really don't like EMGs in guitars with maple tops, but I can get decent AB tones with my Viper with EMGs...solid body mahogany guitars sound good to me with them.

Honestly the sludge is more in the amp settings/effects than it is anything, but I'd say a mahogany guitar with just about any pickups in it will work well. an ibanez with stock pickups will do the sludge thing as long as your amp will allow for it.

Ibby Iceman. Those things can give you such a heavy tone. Thinking an SGJ would be a good choice too.

Ideally, you'll want a guitar that's a big slab of mahogany.

For pups, try something like a medium output PAF.

Sludge? You want short scale, low tuning, heavy strings, and high gain. Check out LTD EC-1000s. They should be well under $600 used.
