Hello everyone. I recently got a new job and hopefully will be able to save up some money and cure my LP GAS. I've always wanted a Les Paul Custom but a proper Gibson is way out of my reach at the moment. The few I've been looking at are the following.

    ESP LTD EC1000 with duncans.
    Used ESP Eclipse MIJ
Epiphone Les Paul Custom, the regular one and the Matt and Björn's guitars.
Edwards LPC, can't try before I buy and need to buy from ebay and pray it doesn't get damaged in shipping.
Used MIJ lawsuites - Burny, Greco, Orville, Aria Pro II etc.

Where would you look for a good Les Paul Custom-vibed guitar in the 1000$-ish price range?

ESP/Edwards/EII are all great, especially if you get em used. That's the route I'd go, or maybe with a PRS SC
You can usually find actual gibson LPs for under 1k used as well.

    Heritage!

Used ones sell for between $1400 and $1800 and they are fucking awesome! Especially if you want something with a more classic vibe.

But, you really can't go wrong with a MIJ ESP.

I'd steer clear of the lawsuit stuff unless you can try it and/or feel like doing a bunch of homework.

^ here, buy it before I do lol

Also, check out Sam Ash, MF, etc... theyve had stupid deals of the day and ridiculous sales on older NOS Gibsons. They had a 2017 SG HP for $700 a couple days ago (the 2019 one is $2400, albeit heavily upgraded and with an aluminum flight case instead of bag). Last year i bought a NOS goldtop LP Less Plus P90 that was $2499 normally for $1100. And i got a doublecut p90 that was $899 for $450 with the Gibson gold OHSC!

To help clarify so we can point you in the right direction... do you just want Gibson LP aesthetic, or Gibson tone?

You can get a Godin, Schecter solo or tempest or a Cort CR custom for like less than 400$...

I would go used ESP Eclipse all day. The used market is really soft, and you can find them in that price range ($1200 all day, $1000 occasionally).

Id grab an ESP or ESP E-II, Heritage, or just get a Gibson LP Model that hits the top of tour price point. All used of course.

If you want an actual lp get a studio.

If you want a ballller budget LP, agile AL3000. If you want a nicer LP than a studio, a MIJ lawsuit from a reputable place.

Thank you for all the replies! I live in Sweden so most if not all US based retailers aren't an option, that being said, most of European are. I don't necessarily want a proper Gibson but I do want something that is more traditional in spec, 24.74" scale length, LP style body but again, not necessarily a Les Paul clone but a single cut I guess.

I hadn't heard about Prestige Guitars at all before this thread but they do seem rather nice, at least aesthetically. Due to ESP's situation in regards to certain body shapes, at lesast pre EII, there are a lot of 4 knobs Eclipses for sale in Sweden and in Europe. I don't know if these where for sale in the US too but I guess they are the same in terms of quality as the more common 3 knob'ed ones?

    Thanks :)

    Try before you buy

The Matt Heafy Epiphone is a super thick and heavy guitar. Totally different to an ESP Eclipse which you also listed.

Personally, I'd go for a Gibson Les Paul Studio. They are fantastic, and you can easily change the pickups to be more metal, if that's what you want.

How about a PRS S2 singlecut? Every one I've picked up and tried made me GAS for it, and I always leave thinking I'd snatch one up over a Gibson studio any day. Still made in the USA and can easily be bought in the ~$1000 range.

And the Satins are even less. My satin became my #1 once I got it. It's stock save for straplocks and I've hauled it all over north america for just over two years.

Yep, the satin Standard 24 is the one I always noodle on every time I see one. Really spanky and bright tone acoustically. Honestly, I prefer the more traditional look some of the S2 guitars have over the the classic PRS crazy figured top and bird inlays they're known for.

There's a used Satin S2 for sale at a guitar shop 5 minutes away from me, for only $795. Ridiculous deal, and I'm really fighting not buying it...

Used Carvin CS. Most CS3 are around $900 or less. The CS3 is plain solid mahogany, and the CS4 is with a plain wood top. The CS6 is the same guitar but with a figured wood top.

There are 22 and 24 fret versions, but most are 22. Both are 25" scale.

This one was listed on reverb for $730, which was a better than average price, but not super crazy.

I’ve heard nothing but good things about the AL series from agile guitars.
