Pickups for 8, 9 and 10 string guitars are now available from Lace. They are based on the custom Tone Bars that are in Tosin's Strandberg and Celticelk's O.A.F 8 string. They should be hitting their website in the next couple of weeks. If you're thinking of ditching your actives in your current axe or having a custom guitar built definitely consider trying out a set of these. They fit standard EMG routs and are in my opinion the best ERG pickup available.
Please contact me through my yahoo email (oafstore@yahoo.com) if you are interested in ordering a pair.

    Are they seriously called Aluma-Djent?

    This has gone too far.

I know, I had to read the email twice. I think it's actually really cool that Lace named it that way. How many other pickup companies would do that?

Despite the name it is a very versatile pickup that really allows the natural tone of the guitar to shine through. I can see this pickup being used for pretty much any style of music.

I'm going to buy them. I'm just going to have to refer to them as "the ones Tosin uses" to avoid embarrassment.

Out of curiosity, do you know if they'll do any custom anodizing?

! That would be pretty sweet if they do. Expect to see us all getting these. :metal:

No seven string version? I had heard that Lace was working on some pickups for sevens.

I don't know off hand if they do any custom anodizing but I'll shoot an email to them. What color are you thinking?

As far as seven string pickups go I think they are doing them as well. The pickups that I put in Celticelk's guitar are the 3.5" frames which would be pretty close the EMG 707 in size but the magnets cover alot more space than the EMG pickups so they work fine.

The funny thing about the name is, aren't the ones Tosin is using based on the Aluma 90s  Not really "djenty"

PS I agree it would be freaking awesome if you can get these custom anodized... or even if they could ship them raw so you could send them out for anodizing

Nothing too crazy - I just had come up with this mockup of a Strandberg that should be finished up around next July, and kind grew to really like the idea of the darker red anodized grooves in the pickups.

I love Alumitone pickups, but the djent thing really turns me off.

Not enough to not buy them, though. ;) No sevens though? Really? I'd buy some right now for my Loomis.

Wait, am I actually on the cutting edge of a trend? That never happens! =) I suppose everyone will be racing to get domestic-sourced wood guitars next...except Tosin's doing that with his Toone build, so maybe everyone actually will....

That is kind of odd they aren't making any for 7s if it is a djentbucker

The Loomis has EMG 707s, right? Check the housing size - I'm fairly confident that the Lace BassBar 3.5 is the same size, and that's the size of the pickup I've got in my OAF 8. My guess is that these will be Tosin's Aluma-90 modified ToneBar in the current BassBar-sized housings and billed as 8/9/10 string pickups respectively. So that "Aluma-Djent" 8 could very well be a drop-in replacement for the 707. I think. Maybe. Don't quote me on that. =)

OTOH, Fred's 7-string Strandberg has a standard-sized Aluma-90, which actually works for 7 strings due to its width. Maybe Lace is counting on selling those to builders who want pickups for 7s.

Tom has my guitar for minor adjustments at the moment, so I can't help you out just yet. Check out any of Tosin's YouTube videos where he's playing one of his Strandbergs. The guitar-and-vocal video of "Behaving Badly" exposes the clean tone of the pickup really well.
