It look great so far! The option you went for look far better than the original mock ups with the wenge top and pickguard, even though those were really nice too.

You might have mentioned that already but what is wood is the fretboard? It has a really nice color variation, subtle but present and it flows really well with the rest of the guitar,.

Thanks, I started out thinking I wanted a more traditional tele vibe but decided against it since I've always wanted an exotic woods tele.

    It's an ebony fretboard.

Guitar has entered final sanding, should be all oiled up by the end of the week.

This is so awesome... and that work is so clean it makes me feel like a barbarian. I noticed that gnarly router bit on the end of the fixed base in the picture which showed some of the wiring channels cut out.

Anyone have some insight into how something like that would work? I mean sure, he's got a template on there to guide his bit, but how do you get it in there in the first place? Just holding it over the template as you gradually lower the bit into the wood?

edit: also just wanted to reiterate that this build is so epic, you've got one helluvan axe coming your way!

from what I've seen you can either remove the majority of the wood from the pocket using a drill press/drill with a forstner bit and then clean it up with the router/template, or you just remove a bit of material at a time with the router/template. Most of the videos I've seen start with a pilot hole or such.

Yeah I can't wait for it to show up, it's gonna be awesome.

Ah okay, thanks! So a pilot hole would be a drilled hole that works as a slot for your router bit... fascinating! I was doing that on a few of the jigs i've built but I thought I was doing something "wrong" haha...

I've gotta try out Odie's oil now. That looks so satisfying to use.
