Wow! Beautiful guitar! I love the neck heel / body joint area - looks super smooth. Also the scarf and neck heel laminates are really nice details.
Look at this (No offense!)
Thank you so much!
And no offense taken, haha! I wonder how similar our headstocks would be when lined up, looks really close.
Hey SSO friends! I've been laid up after having a couple teeth pulled earlier this week, so I decided to use my couch time constructively and reinterpret an old design of mine. I've been on a Brian Setzer kick lately, so Filtertrons were a big part of this thing. I know it's not a big hollowbody, but I'm currently sketching up a semihollow version that'll get you most of the way there.
So here it is, Nova 2.0!
Frets in and neck carve mostly done on this Wayfarer MS6. I can't wait to reveal where this is going to end up
Fretwork and sanding complete, oil applied!
that looks amazing...
what fret board it that? love it!
Thank you! This fretboard is one of two from the weirdest pale moon ebony billet I've ever seen. The other one is also a multi 6 with a lot more 'splatter' effect, got it reserved for a future stock build.
Thinking about doing a bass soon...4 or 5 strings?
probably 4 strings, seems like that would appeal to more people off the bat.
The first Wayfarer MS6 is done! Look for it on stage over the next few weeks with Jeremy Smith of Like Moths to Flames
Black limba body w/ ziricote top and ivoroid binding
Wenge neck w/maple laminates
Pale moon ebony fretboard w/Jescar 58118SS wire
Hipshot 18 degree bridge and open-gear locking tuners
Elysian Pickups hot modern bridge (Alnico/ceramic hybrid), modern neck (A4)
wow...congrats to him and you both!
he's def getting a great looking axe
Just finished prep work for the impending arrival of Hurricane Irma. Current projects and rare/exotic woods have been moved to a safe and elevated location (my apartment, haha), and my machinery has been wrapped in heavy plastic with all seams sealed with waterproof tape. We're located in the Tampa area and will hopefully avoid the brunt of Irma's impact, but only time will tell. Stay safe out there!
hopefully your preparation will pay off...better you went to all the trouble then to lose it all.
i've been of vacation to florida a few times and loved it when its nice and sun shiney days. even thought about moving there in the keys.
but when its bad, its bad. was present during a small hurricane once, then a tornado, and then during 911...that was crazy scary!
hope all goes well bro...keep us up to date
Thank you! Current track looks like we'll get winds up to 80 mph and 6-8 inches of rain in my area, so not too bad. I'll definitely post when she passes.
In the meantime, I've been playing around with some new modeling toys and have finally been able to really get my vision for the Voyager to where I want it. The goal is to be ultra sleek and organic, with a bit of modern edge. Here are some renders for the next Voyager 7 prototype:
I'm really looking forward to this new direction for the Voyager, I think it's the right way to go. Of course, it'll be available as a 6, 7, or 8 string, straight or multiscale. Let me know what you think!
I really like how it's beveled on the front and back, and how contoured it is.
Best luck with the hurricane bro, keep us posted.
Thanks for the well wishes, guys!
Just got home a few hours ago. We evacuated to the West Palm Beach area (my aunt's house is built like a tank) when it became clear that Irma was going to head directly for Tampa. Upon returning, there's a fair amount of fallen trees and associated debris, but nothing too serious as far as we saw. Our family and friends are safe, our apartment is undamaged, and we have power and water. Hopefully, the same is true for any SSO people in the storm's path.
Oh, and my shop is ok too
