I want to try a .64/.65 in my K7 but recently noticed that the 7th tuner looks kinda full with a .58.

Whats the max you have gone without drilling out the tuner? I really dont want to drill the tuner out.

This kinda sucks on my RG7620 i went to a .68.

    Thanks

I use REALLY light strings now, .009-.054 (I know, I'm a wuss). I've done .060 in the past, and it worked ok, but I tried it out with a .070 and it just wouldn't fit. So .064/.065 might work, but I doubt .068 would. Oh, and K-7s, HELL YEAH! :hbang:

I can fit a 65 through the tuners on my UV, and when i owned the 1077XL, without drilling it fit a 68.

If it doesnt fit, just unwrap the string to get it through and then go from there.

    MK,

Does it matter if the string above the nut is unwound? Like it wont compromise the strength or anything will it?

Im looking to play in B I think. Its just that everytime I set out to play in B I miss the heavy stuff and go back to A.

well, i used 11-50 (dAFCGD) and then 60 for my A on my 7620 and it worked fine. Try readjusting your truss rod and your trem angle. Thatll help a lot. Not to mention, DONT PICK HARD enough to throw the string outta whack, lol

Doesn't the K7 use the same tuners as the RG2027? (Gotoh)

    I use a .068 on mine.

Not all above the nut...it's too long just a little part of string that will be in tuner.

I don't really see what the big deal about drilling is. All it takes is a hand drill, a metal bit, and about fifteen seconds of your time. It is damn near impossible to fuck it up, and it won't effect your resale value in the slightest.

    Yep.

Actually the K7 (atleast mine) doesnt have tuners that say gotoh. They look like gotohs but they dont say it.

Also I have decided to get a nice set of 9-60 probably tuned to B.

I tried a ton of gauges on my K7s, anything over 60 always sounded muddy. Maybe it was the pickups (D Sonic / PAF),

Maybe its just mine then?? I have a 2001 K7 Blade grey. The 7th tuner looks like 60 is the max. Thats fine for me now as I will be tuning in B.

Hmm is it tight? Like I think a .64 will fit if I gently feed it though. But for tuning in B, 64 might be too thick.
