Last chance to get in on the run everyone, If you are on the fence about it, please talk to me. The Canadian dollar is low right now, and we offer several payment options. I love basses and would really like the opportunity to build more!
I was originally planning to do 5, with one extra made for stock, but since the 5 didn;t sell out, (yet) i'll probably only make 4 so that i can do a guitar run sooner. I'm actually pretty surprised the 5 didn't sell out, i think January might have been a bad time to announce it, maybe i would have had more luck in march+april
I'm surprised as well. ~2.2k USD is a very good price for what's on offer, and it's a solid package. Specs don't quite fit what I'm looking for right now (too picky for my own good, and I'm not talking about wood selection or such), but I would have expected more active interest in the run.
On your run? Not a damn thing. The fact that I kept coming back to look at the mockups even though I've no real need to invest in one of these basses is proof enough of that - like I said, it's a great package. I probably shouldn't have said that to begin with; I meant only to compliment the design, not suggest that revisions were warranted. Any changes I'd make are likely better suited to a one-off, and definitely wouldn't fit in this run.
alright cool, i was just curious to hear opinions on specs and stuff.... and ..ya know.. see if its something I could theoretically accommodate. =P speaking of mockups: Marshall is pretty confident that he will be choosing this: finish test concept: in other news.. i was already set up for it, so i figured i may as well cut the headplates and cover plates for the run too, even though i don't need them just yet.
I'm in!!! Secured top E Really looking forward to working with Jay on this one, it's been a long time since I've gotten onto a custom build (August last year is a long time for a whore like me ok) Jay ticks all the boxes... Reputable builder with happy customers, no horror stories Guitars look great Custom 5 string bass I've been looking for This run looks fantastic Specs are virtually what i'm after Helps out Darren, major in my book Pumped!
^ This - So far incredibly responsive and accommodating different ideas i'm throwing at him. Surprised this run hasn't sold out yet!! Oh well, I came on here late but very happy to get onboard
all five bodies are glued up. =] still finishing off the last of the CAD work as well as contacting my suppliers for my parts orders, but the building has begun!
fun with bandsaws. once i route the perimeter, i'm going to weigh the bodies before and after chambering, mostly out of curiosity. I'll weigh them again later on.
bodies routed, and chambered, next up is joining the tops. my new template system is making fast work of these. i weighed the bodies before and after, chambering removed around 1lb from each body. Most are sitting around an average of 4.5 lbs. right around that sweet spot for basses. a bunch of weight will be lost from the control recess too, the rest will kind of be neutral (neck pocket gets filled with neck, pickup pockets get filled with pickups, top gets countered by the roundovers.
I appologize in advanced for the crappy photo quality.. i need a new phone really bad. anyways, Often when I do a run of guitars, i'll run one spare guitar ahead of the others to make sure all the templates are working properly, and all ym routing depths are set up right, before i move onto the customer builds. so today i grabbed a spare mahogany blank and went through my new order of operations with my newly designed template system, and it worked great. and i learned of one spot that wants to tear out, so i know to avoid that on the run bodies. Once the tops get glued on these will start to progress pretty quickly. also, for my birthday I'm offering $200 off a spot on this run, or any of my in stock stuff. Today only =]
Did some rethinking of the bass bridge, led me to this: pretty simple, but solid. might still tinker with a few other ideas before I go ahead and make these. in other news, i've basically jsut been joining tops and adding the veneer layers to the bodies. and here's some wenge i'll be using on the armadas.
