Is it me or is something wrong with my snare in this mix?

    Hi there,

I like the sound of the snare with the rest of the kit and on its own, but in the mix I think it sounds weird, or have I just been mixing this for too long?

My processing for the snare is as follows:

EQ (boosting some highs, slight wide cut in the mids and high pass filter)

Compressor (quite a bit of compression I like that type of sound, normally. Slow attack and release)

Kramer Tape (I've just been watching Periphery's studio pass with Nolly Getgood and he put a tape on his snare processing channel, I think it sounds alright).

    Stillwell Verbiage for reverb.

    Thanks for reading.

I think it sounds fine generally speaking, but something funny is going on level-wise. Particularly during blast-y parts, the snare just kinda disappears under everything else.

Thanks for listening. Yes, I have turned that part up, they're supposed to be quieter but I turned down the snare slightly and forgot about those blast beats.

I was really digging that track in spots. Loved the avant-garde solo around 2:50!

Thank you. I appreciate that. If I remember that solo was just one take and a complete accident, I will never remember how to play it ha!

I think the ratio on the compressor is a little too high.

Ha ha, you may be overthinking things. Wait for about a week before you listen to this track again. The snare sounds fine to me and I'm digging the piece!
